If your friend had a controversial choice...

If it's something that I feel incredibly strongly against then my philosophy is that I can't change another person's decisions. What they ultimately decide to do in their life is really not up to my control. The only thing I have control over is my own participation, active or passive, in their lives and sometimes it's just best to remove myself from their situation. If it means in extreme situations we lose that friendship, then so be it.

I don't have many friends and I've known them for a long time and I truly think that they're "good". I trust they have very good reasons for doing it. For example marrying for money sounds terrible but maybe they're planning to pay treatment and medical bills for a loved one. I trust my friends would do that and I would accept their choice. A controversial decision must be very hard to do and I can't just abandon them for that, it would only make things harder.
