underused themes

what are some themes in anime you find have been underused? for example, while we get a lot of modern anime set in japan, maybe you'd like to see a modern set in another country. or instead of another vampire anime, you'd like to see werewolves. whats something you'd like to see?

"maybe you'd like to see a modern set in another country" is a perfect example of Kekkai Sensen, which is set in NYC, which you hardly ever see in anime. One theme I like to see more of is the guns blazing type of setting, or girls-with-guns. Kind of like Black Lagoon, or Btooom, a high action gun fighting mayhem, but not too futuristic. (Although Btooom doesn't have any gun firefights, it's still a good action anime)

@maverick i'd imagine you're excited for monster musume no iru nichijou next season then. i'd definitely like to see more monster girls, rather not be ecchi though since i find that cheap personally @ichirai i feel like girls-with-guns is actually kind of common, but it's with more slice of life/school life animes like stella and upotte lmao, but more serious ones like Black Lagoon would be awesome to have.

I like the themes where someone is sent back in time or sent to another world, like Oda Nobuna or Zero no Tsukaima. Unfortunately, they all usually deal with some high school kid and a lot of fanservice. It would be awesome to see an office worker or someone with actual skills that can actually make a difference like a doctor or soldier with nothing going on with his life have a second chance in a new world and bringing more seinen themes. I guess the closest would be more Log Horizon. SAO is similar, but SAO again has an annoying high school protagonist.

That would seem more like Steins;Gate, which they say will have another season? Steins;Gate0 Although Kyouma has only the skill of being a mad scientist.

@pocketto any kind of anime where there isnt an annoying high school protagonist is a definite underused theme haha but yeah i agree with you it's hard to find an anime like that without a teenager

I would like to see some more older protagonist. There is too many animes that involved around high school students while there are less animes about what they gonna do after they're graduated. for example: The protagonist is around 30 years old and find some exciting experience that involved around work. You don't see stories like that and I wish they would notice it.

Nothing wrong with high school protagonists. Some are just unbearably annoying in these themes. Ambition of Ona Nobuna's high school protagonist wasn't that bad since he actually had knowledge and was helpful in the world instead of just being good with a sword. Unlike the one from Zero no Tsukaima. (I was in high school when I saw that one, so I like it for nostalgia and Louise). But I agree with asekuro. Need older protagonists.
