If anyone has the Xbox One version and hadn't already joined a clan - consider mine? I never do raids mainly because no one on my friends list is on when I am or moved on from Destiny. I am looking to change that. https://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Xbox/1309505

I'm about to buy a PS4 soon-ish, I'm considering risking my life this coming Black Friday to pick up the Destiny bundle. What would you guys recommend to someone starting Destiny this far in the game's life? How difficult would it be for me to grind to get to where almost everyone else is? I heard getting really good drops are tediously hard.

Honestly, doesn't take you like a week to get to level 40, which is the highest level in the game. I would say before you even look up the game, look up the classes and races you can choose. The game is a grind but the fun is honestly the community. Good drops are hard but there are missions where it's challenging. it's worth it. If you end up getting a PS4, I'll help you out too!
