Depends on what I get my hands on first I usually like Subs better, sounds much more practiced and smooth. But I can say some voices can get irritating OK if that is there intent but sometimes it's meant to be cute and fail at it.
Dub would be better if there were a larger range of voice actors, and some sounds don't translate well.

I find subs, are generally more passionate in their work. Dubs are pretty hit and miss. I can't stand kuroshitsuji's

If the voice acting in the dubs is excellent, I will go with dubs. However, if the voice acting is crappy, I will always go with subs.

I think the main problem I have is when I watch the sub and have a idea of how they saw the character then the dub just takes away from it.

Depends on quality. I have enjoyed a fair amount of dubs already while I'll still generally search for subs first.

I would have to say, dub in my opinion is too limited in the voices in the english language. Many type casts can be found within moment. While in the Japanese Subs, you do have some vets, but you can always expect a possibility of a new voice, or a vet doing a role you never thought they would do.
The only Dub, i really enjoyed to the point that i hate the Sub, is Dragon Ball Z. Since, i found the dub was amazing, and yes keep in mind it's my opinion :P But i rather goku being voiced by a man, and not a chick. No offence to the japanese, but man, it's a dude. I understand the original comedy thing, but yah...English dub has to be pretty much ground breaking and make you believe that is the character alone, and not, "Oh it's inu-yasha's Voice actor playing this dude."
All that is the reason i like sub. And i like reading :P and making my own voices in my head in english for each character using the japanese voices provided XDDDDD

It really depends on the show. Almost all of the time, the subs are going to be better than the dubs. For the newer funimation stuff (now that they have their ultimate cast), the dubs are generally extremely good. For example, The Fairy Tale dubs are just absolutely excellent. The Baccano dubs were absolutely excellent. The Bamboo Blade dubs were much better than the subs >.<, lol. However, for the majority of anime, the subs are going to be much, much better than the dubs. Some examples of this are Slayers and Shuffle. There is just no comparison, the dubs are awful ; |. Lina in dub mode sounds awful.
You are going to have some compromises to make between the dubs and subs. For example, Soul Eater dubs are excellent, but Maka just sounds better in the subs. Stein sounds better in the dubs (however, one of my fav voice actors plays him in dubs, so my opinion may be a bit biased). However, Maka is in the show more than Stein, so I personally watch it in subs =P. If Brandon Potter plays any of the characters (he did Harima dubs in School Rumble and the what's his face guy in Black Cat (carries the briefcase)), I auto watch dubs =O. That guy is awesome, lol. However, voice actors like Carrie Savage and (just forgot his name, he's a director + voice actor and directed + acted in Solty Rei, was also in Tsubasa and many others) are also very good. I had no problems with any of the dub voice actors in Haruhi Suzumiya either, which is why I watch that one in dubs =).
It really depends on the actors involved (how well they fit the characters). Fairy Tale is english writing, so it just makes sense to listen to it in dubs, which is why I do (and all of the voices happen to match the characters perfectly, so it works out well).
Ok, enough of the ranting of dubs and subs ;D.

depends on the show, for instance: Beck and Berserk sound great eng dub, but Lain and Niea Under Seven sound only good jap dubbed.

Well I like watching dubs just to see what it sounds like in english and I also like watching subs, just because you start to pick up some japanese words. So I like both :)
