Joe Lieberman? He was a Democrat back then, but his views on video games were more conservative and he is no longer a member of the Democratic Party as of around 2006 or so. You forget that most of his speeches on anti-video game legislation appeared on the highly Republican Fox News, and I remember that on his Fox Sunday debates, he tended to gain support from right wing parties.
"Lieberman is one of the Senate's leading opponents of violence in video games and on television. Lieberman describes himself as being "genuinely an Independent,"
Jack Thompson was one of the most well known politicians that supported the censorship of rap music and video gaming before his death last year. He was a Republican.
"Following the Newtown, Conn., shootings that left 26 dead, the National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre pointed a finger at violence in media and the gaming industry as playing a role,"
^ The NRA is as Conservative as it gets, if you ask me.
In general, censorship of video game media would make more sense as a right wing viewpoint, as they tend to dislike media that goes against their religion or faith. A highly conservative and sheltering family wouldn't allow their kid to play video games, but I'm sure one that was very much on the left wing of the political spectrum would. When there's a school shooting, Conservatives blame the media and video games, Liberals blame gun control.
