Republicans, Good or Evil? And Favorite Republican

The Republican Party emerged from the ex-Whigs and the free-soilers that were in the Democratic Party, I should say. Basically all the anti-slavery people.

Politics and parties that represent them change over time, which is why I can not ever truly side with one over the other. I can take certain parts of them and agree with them but agreeing with a party as a whole, would be rather hard for me to do.

@Maverick actually the split was before the civil war. The Whig party dissolved after the signing of the Kansas-Nebraska act in 1854. Maybe you're thinking about Jeffersonian Republicans aka democratic republicans which split up after the war of 1812 to become the Democratic Party and the Whig Party. However @Yu is correct in that ideologies change over time. It'd be a lie to discredit the Civil Rights that the Republicans fought for. They were the party for Civil Rights, which is why Lincoln and specifically Ike are Republicans. Of course, the modern GOP doesn't exactly conform to that track record, but historically, they were the party fighting for civil rights. Normally I'm pretty bipartisan. I vote for people I think will be better for the job, but with both parties running for the extreme opposite sides of the spectrum, I'm actually tempted to vote straight ticket in November and that is just weird to me. Even though Wendy Davis most likely won't win, I hate Greg Abbott and the republican running for Lt. Gov. And then all the other rep nominations for judges are too socially conservative for my tastes.

I don't care for either; to be honest I hate watching and hearing about politics...everybody has their own piece of so called evil in them so no one is in the necessarily right...these kinds of systems of labels only cause more fighting, segregation, and hate to one another. the label good VS evil is so black and white their is no such thing as good and evil just everything in between...an example is what some see as heroic others will see as demonic terrorism...even religion is a type of label as well that's caused more wars and countless innocent deaths of men, women and children through out all of time...no I'm not atheist I believe in a higher power however all religion is pretty much linked so I take from many. plus nether a god, angel, or a messiah wrote or translated the bibles or statements on religion...there are false profits, people who add what they wanted disinclining other things, so every religion must have some sort of flaw...religions shouldn't preach hate towards certain people going out of their way to talk crap about women who have abortions, while I don't agree with that either I believe they should have a choice without having curses spewed at them...what happened to love thy enemy. I don't remember the last time someone said: "lets agree to disagree" and let it go...land of the free is considered America...not totally true while we have certain privileges others don't we are still not free...no one is no country fully gives people the right to make choices. everyone in politics, wars, and other matters like that to me act like children on the playground going through the 'MINE' phase and saying "your wrong I'm right and you'll always be wrong!" ...it's never lets meet half way...if this is humanity count me out.
