90'z or New Anime?

metasynth21
...I'm a 80'z baby/90'z kid...so most of the anime that i watch is from the 'Manga/ADV films' era in anime. Tho the anime of today'z age is really good and cutting edge...i still prefer the ole good ole animes such as 'Ninja Scroll', 'Akira', and 'Variable Geo'. What do you guyz think? Ole skool era or Modern style anime?

Ninja Scroll in my opinion is way ahead of it's time when it came out. The pace of the story is really good even with all the beautiful battle scenes. Another good anime back in thd 90's that was ahead of it's time was Perfect Blue, see the dancing scene at the beginning? Those are cell animation but the fluid motion is comparable to modern CGI ^_^! Too bad Satoshi Kon died, he's only 2nd to Hayao Miyazaki in my book T_T...

Perfect Blue is indeed flawless. Psychoactive anime is my thing and I need more of it in my life. I prefer my 90'z animes of old because like you said 'Jojoni', the Anime films were way ahead of their time and storylines were not overshadowed by "fanservice"...I like a good blend of both. The newest anime I've seen besides 'Sword Art Online' is 'Darker than Black'...that may be bad...im tryin' to get back in the loop.

80's! But really I never let age dictate the quality of something. I am a big fan of both old and new, same with videogames.

I love the old and the new. the old anime series where all my childhood memory of my favorite anime and the new anime they have good quality and lot of improvement and something new you never saw in the tv....

I argee, the art styles of anime has progressed to an uncanny level. New anime is that much more vivid and detailed but still holds true to its' roots. Oh! How they flawless mix 3d with 2d is fucking amazing. Karas 1 and 2 is an excellent example. (Tatsunoko...FTW)

Thanks for the input 'Loli-Chan'! I get a bit annoyed at the 80'z style anime but that's only because the 90'z stuff is so much sharper looking. I'm kinda out of the new anime loop for now, so i've been looking for anime that goes beyond simple fan service and presents us viewers some psychoactive plot with the eye candy. I definitely agree with your comment about psychological anime. (Perfect Blue, Paranoia Agent, Macross II'z song of death).

I don't think I would be able to pick between the two. I have series that I like from both time periods. I definitely feel like there are trends that go through art and subject matter in shows though. I guess that is a lot like games.
