12 year old Wisconsin girls stab friend 19 times

They wanted to be "proxies" of Slenderman. http://www.theindychannel.com/news/u-s-world/12-year-old-wisconsin-girls-stab-friend-19-times

Kind of reminds me of the Dnepropetrovsk maniacs, except younger. It's crazy. Unfortunately things like this often end up becoming anti-video game campaign material (in this case because of Slenderman).

That is seriously messed up...

In this case probably more anti-internet. Creepy pasta stories are entertaining but some people obviously take them too seriously. I have watched most of the Marble Hornets Slenderman series on YouTube.

By the Gods. How ... How can somebody believe that story? Even for their age, it doesn't make sense.

I've heard that slenderman is a real legend, not just internet made up. I've heard he grabs people and ties them down and asks them a question "What is my name?". If you get it right then he cuts loose a log that is hanging over your head, and if you get it wrong then he slides his fingers down your throat to your heart and rips it out.

I'd imagine there's some underlying mental illness here. It wasn't even a spur of the moment deal, they planned it.
zombiephoenix
Not to sound heartless or anything, but what if there isn't any mental illness involved?
chichuukaijin
Sound really similar to a Japanese urban legend called Kuchisake-onna.

It would be hard to imagine, but perhaps not impossible. Generally normal people have a sense of right and wrong within the standard parameters and a natural fear of consequences. If they came from an unstable home perhaps their sense of right and wrong would be a little skewed, but otherwise a normal healthy mind shouldn't find the desire to take life without a significant reason. I've only studied basic psychology though so perhaps there are some more complex factors at play that influenced their behavior.
