In the year 0079 of the Universal Century mankind has left from earth and live in many space colonies. When all was peaceful a family arose trying to take over and rule over the space colonies.

The confrontation between the Earth Alliance (Naturals) and Zaft (Coordinators) originated in economic trouble had reached an impasse. War couldn't be stopped by that point, and thus this story begins one year later when Heliopolis, a resource satellite belonging to a neutral nation, is suddenly attacked by a Zaft mobile suit force.

In Zeta Gundam, we see the future world of the Universal Century through a dark mirror. Having defeated the Zeon menace, the Earth Federation has itself become cruel and oppressive.
