Just get your portfolio out there. I have some contacts(gotta look up the email addresses) that helped me get into some concept design, which is uncredited, but good experience. That's the easy part, the hard part is getting into full time art design and I just didn't have the time to dedicate almost all of my time into. But I've gotten to work with great artist with major gaming companies and learn from them. So don't give up.
