In a world where having superpowers is the norm, heroes fight day and night against the villains who terrorize the populace in order to keep peace and order in the society. The story follows a seemingly bland but extremely powerful individual named Saitama, who initially fights as a hero for fun.

Being just a normal student without a special talent, Makoto Naegi wins a lottery to attend the prestigious Hope's Peak Academy where only the top prodigies attend. However, instead of this being the beginning of a wonderful high school life, it's a ticket to despair, because the only way to graduate from Hope's Peak Academy is to kill one of your fellow students or be one of their victims.

Putting his life on the line, Willem Kmetsch leaves his loved ones behind and sets out to battle the "Beasts," terrifying creatures that have emerged on the Earth's surface and now threaten humanity's existence. In battle, he falls into an icy slumber and upon awakening 500 years later, finds himself to be the sole survivor of mankind's annihilation.

The story centers around Tsukimi Kurashita, a huge fan of jellyfish and a girl who moves to Tokyo to become an illustrator. She moves into "Amamizukan," an apartment complex that is full of diehard female otaku with a no-men-allowed rule.
