Shibusen, standing for Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA) the technical school for Reaper Armsmasters that operates from the deepest recesses of all the corners of the world, in order to prevent the second coming of the so-called Demon God who is feared upon bringing destruction of all humankind and envelop the world with nothing but madness and darkness. The reaper built this agency for weapons and for those who will be trained to wield them.

The story revolves around Rin Okumura, a teenager possessing abnormal strength and endurance who, along with his younger twin brother Yukio, was raised by Father Shiro Fujimoto. The "Seven Deadly Sins," a group of evil knights who conspired to overthrow the kingdom of Britannia, were said to have been eradicated by the Holy Knights, although some claim that they still live. Ten years later, the Holy Knights have staged a Coup d'état and assassinated the king, becoming the new, tyrannical rulers of the kingdom.

Aster and Yuno were abandoned together at the same church, and have been inseparable since. As children, they promised that they would compete against each other to see who would become the next sorcerous emperor.
