The Kimono, Would you wear it?

vigeorae
I really enjoy the heavier kimonos. Rather Geisha style, lots of layering. i love layers. :) Although the yukata is super fun, my first real nihon outfit was a replica of Kikyo from Inuyasha.

I would love to wear a kimono, but they're so incredibly complicated. They're cultural, and have meaning and stylistic differences. They're much like kilts that way. Except I understand kilts. And will have a kilt in my clan tartan just as soon as I can afford one. Where am I?

hehe I have a Kilt of My Clan Tartan. is very cool I have never worn it but I am Happy I own it and ass for Kimono you can buy a simple design one and really only three pieces. but yea there are elaborate ones that can be way complicated.

What clan, talamar? When I get a kilt, I plan on wearing it at least twice a year, once on Tartan Day and once during the Highland Games (my family attends every year, and my brother (whom is my half-brother and belongs to a different clan) and I become very competitive). I'll probably wear it for other formal occasions, like weddings and such, but those are the main two. What are kimonos like, price-wise? I know a basic package for a kilt in your clan colors starts at around $200 for quality, and as you add things can go as high as $650 to $800.

Well I actually bought my kilt from ohr clan home when we visited Scotland. And our clan is clan McGregor. And the kimono I have right now was120$ is my kimono for under my kendo armour. While not flashy is still good looking.

I felt strange wearing a school uniform when I was in Japan at a festival, it wasn't expected for me to be dragged along with my host family :P I got the death look a lot because everyone else was wearing traditional clothing. So the next day I purchased multiple kimonos so I wouldn't run into that problem again. Since I've been back in america, I've had to buy them online, they never had what I liked, so now I end up making my kimonos/yukatas

Kimonos, from what I've been looking at online, can range from around $40-over $1000 depending on style/quality/age etc. That's not including other accessories and pieces like an undergarment kimono or the obi and obi accessories.I've mainly been looking at some in the $100 range and will try buying one eventually.

I would wear one. I've made a few and worn them, but I think actually buying one made from kimono material would be the best! I hope that whenever I get married, I will be able to wear a wedding kimono or at least the outer jacket for it since I know they can be very expensive
