Just like the title of the thread says. Mine is inspired by my recently departed grandfather, and it's entitled "He was a Giant." Hearts heavy with the burden of everyday The gloom without fail would consume all Except for one man who stood as a giant Though he wasn't even 6 feet tall. His head held high amid the troubles He could see above the murk and despair. But his powers did not end at that. He could pull others up into that fresh air. Be it with a home cooked meal or story, Or a joke so very full of corn You didn't need to spend much time with him Before your face, a smile would adorn Yet even the mightiest of giants Their end shall come someday. Without them we must carry on Without them, we must find a way. No longer can we hear his voice Nor can we look upon his face. The world still needs a giant So now I will take his place.

Pride Out Of The Hole: The hole I have dug deep, The bottom I have reached, And still, I have broken through. The daylight I have forgotten, The child long ago, Has felt the sun. But I have dug too deep, To remember. Earthen scars I scarcely see, Blood soaked hands, And weary feet. I have been broken, But never beat. Echoing above and around, A voice not human, Cries out. "Has the hole not made you strong? Climb out, And be free." Turning back, I let out unintelligible words. And so, I begin to climb. In the pitch black you cannot see, Only feel, The footholds and caked blood, Of a many years descent. With each hand and foot I climb, Through many memories, Battles won and lost, All a part of the hole, I dug too deep. The only One that saw me, Guides me through dark, Until at last, A spark of light I see. Faster and faster I climb, Full of wonder and excitement, A light, A life, All to begin anew! The light brighter, The scene clearer, I am almost able to feel, Feel what a child thought dead, Felt long ago. The sun, the light, a life! Pouring down on me, It feels so strange, Not warmth but cold, Almost as ice. Stinging my eyes, The light is blurred, Soaked and frozen, My climb has been shakened. Silhouettes in the light above, Of those that would hate me, Those that would gladly, Watch me fall. Traitors, Liars, Cheaters, Users. Some insult, Some hide behind false smiles. They scheme and shout above, "He is too strong to fall, Drown him instead!" The rushing waves below me, Rise and rise, Drenched to the bone, My legs submerged. Cheers from above, About my impending doom, My grip is slipping, Forever I would be lost. Another spark, But not from above, The One ignites, The light within me. Fire from within, Evaporates the water on my skin, I reach, I climb, The water behind me. Terror stricken, They panic above, The light within me, Is the power of love. Wiping my eyes, I reach and climb, Victory is mine, The war I have won. Determined and strong, With love in my heart, I climb, I shout, At those above, "You dumb fuckers forgot! I know how to swim!"
