Marylanders?

goku187
To my marylanders, what is your favorite con in our state?
realmikuhatsune
I'm actually in Delaware (currently) but in a state with so little to do, Maryland is basically all we've got. Otakon and Katsucon are the only ones I've been to around the area. If I had to pick between the two, probably Ota. I used to love Katsu for a long while because it's a 24 hour con. Good memories.
goku187
@realmikuhatsune, I know, katsu is really great. I've always had a good time at ota until these last two years. I thought it was going to be better than Baltimore and the local was the venue not so much
realmikuhatsune
I haven't been to Ota these last two years hahaha. Strangely enough, because I've been going to cons much farther away. They moved, didn't they? That at least should have made it a little more interesting; shame it wasn't. : ( In terms of katsu, the greatest thing about that con is/was the gazebo. I remember the one year that had it protected by security LOL. And then another year where the con space was shared with some sort of Jewish convention? It was just a really odd mix. I remember things got prickly lmao
goku187
I've always loved that fountain and when they do the thing with all the different colors. Yeah otakon has moved to DC now. This year was their first year there. I think I remember that. There was a lot of apprehensive looks that year. I have been trying farther cons this year as well. I have done zenkaicon and derpycon. Which ones have you done so far?
realmikuhatsune
Oh, yeah! It is such a nice spot! Do you remember the one year someone put bubble bath in it?? Gosh, I feel bad for the con/hotel staff but at the same time that was wild. Ohayocon, Matsuricon, and Sakuracon! I did work in Ohio, so I was there every single month, which lead me to doing more stuff in Ohio than where I live haha! I attended Sakuracon when I went to check out Seattle for the first time!
goku187
Oh wow! I've had friends come down to MD that tell me cons in Ohio are epic. Yeah I remember that year the hotel staff were pissed lol. They also used to do that at the fountain in the inner harbor.alot too at ota in the past. Were Ohio cons cheaper than ones here? How was the locale? Do you miss it?
realmikuhatsune
They're really great! Nah, they're about the same! It was good! The Columbus is easy to get around with plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance! (Should you wish to trek the cold; it usually is pretty chilly!) I can't pinpoint exactly what's different, but they are in a really good way! Only thing is, there's nothing particularly special about the conventions, like how Katsu has it's gazebo and Ota has it's fountain. The center does have a very lovely park! I'll be moving to Seattle soon, and Ocean City is unveiling a brand new Comic Con coming in December, which I'm like, sort of salty about, LOL! It's really close to me, so it's just a shame it has to be starting up right as I'm leaving. I'll be able to attend this year though, so I'll think of it as a last hurrah! Have you heard of it?
goku187
Yeah! Me and my friends are going. It's a very cheap con and they are donating to charity. I'm sad it's only one day though. Are you cosplaying? And why are you moving to Seattle?
realmikuhatsune
Oh cool!! Maybe I'll see you there? I'm aiming to! Probably just Miku since she's easy =u= How about you? : ) Change of pace, mostly! I really need to get out of Hellaware. Seattle is a very artsy, liberal place; like an upgraded version of Delaware! It seems nice and I'm looking forward to the move. Especially to experience something different!
