I just watched Evangelion too, the 1997 version, as well the End of Evangelion. Really love the designs of the angels in the show, overall aesthetic of the show was really cool too. Favorite character of all time has got to be Unit 01, and my favorite angel is Ramiel, Sachiel, and Leiel. I didn't think I'd like Asuka, because her personality came on a little too strong, but she really got things done. I like Asuka. There wasn't a character in that show that I disliked.

You know what, I actually liked Gendo too. He was a jerk to his son yeah, and most people, but he could lead and made good decisions with the population in mind (his son excluded). I liked him too because he added to the plot.

I disliked his purpose which was only to bring his wife back to life to over simplify the end plot. Shinji was too much of a coward in my book ... that kid needed some ptsd serum and fast. And the restart of lif based on just asuka and shinji possibly meant humanity is doomed ( asuka I probably not having shinjis kidsx :p )

I thought his goal was to create the evas, but that failed horribly. What with that thing about the second impact. Shinji was 14, and I thought he was going to be annoying but he was believable. Can you remember what you were like when you were 14? Most people can't make and stick to a decision, I wouldn't expect a teenager to know any better.

Nah his goal was to create a new god using his wifes soul an artificial god. Since ayanami was a clone but his wifes soul was stuck in unit 01 meaning ayanami was just a tool for his personal purpose. At 14 or any age for that matter can not bring themselves to kill anything. We all have the potential but not everyone can bring themselves to do it whethr alien or angel same diff. In that aspect shinji was believable but just like everything in humanity fight long enough and have your life risked long enough and you start changing how you react or act towards situations. Shinji changed very little emotionally despite all the fights he had, that was my only problem with him.

Shinji went from a normal awkward, insecure 14 y/o into a totally broken character. I'd say that's character development. I don't know, I like Shinji's character development, it seemed realistic to me. Those army dudes who come back from war and have PTSD; you think it's inappropriate for them to be like that too? Or would you tell them to man up, and you just gotta do what you gotta do.

From those I have met and interacted with, they just never left the war in my personal viewpoint. They know they are not at war in that place but they still feel that any time they might get attacked. I felt they were more paranoid than anything and the drugs given to them is what's truly putting them out of whack. But alas I am not one of them so I can only state my viewpoint. They suffer trauma you can't get over it easily and sometimes not at all. Not all soldiers that go through the same things get ptsd a lot of them do, but not all it just shows how many could handle it and those who couldn't in an emotional level. And I didn't write shinji didn't have chracter development I just felt he changed very little on the emotional aspect despite his situation he lived in. Most people would of had broken a lot sooner than he did but that's just my opinion.
