Anime, anxiety & social ineptitude

manny_heart
Are these things really connected? is there some underlying correlation between anime & social anxiety and or being a hikikomori? or is this just a stigma and a stereotype that has plagued the community. I personally never had trouble being sociable or afraid of being in places that are highly sociable. I often spend my days off going out with my inner circle of friends to parties or kickbacks or we host them from time to time, because we like to drink and play drinking games. But for years now i have noticed (and maybe this is just me seeing what i want to see or making a connection that isn't really there) that most people that i have met who are really into anime/manga are not very sociable or have anxiety. though i have met countless fans of anime at parties and such who don't fit the stereotype but the more i got to know them and talk to them their knowledge of anime/manga was casual at best. like i said, maybe it's just me idk lol but what are some of the opinions or stories you guys/girls have on this subject. and do you think you fit this stereotype? and if you do why? or how did this progress? and was anime/manga a big factor? btw sorry for the bad grammar d;

Not sure but I've never met so many people with social anxiety, sexual/intimacy anxiety and forms of asexuality until I joined maiotaku.

i dont think so you can correlation anxiety and social anxiety in many hobbies, gaming, comics, ect people with pre existing anxietys usually drift toward "antisocial" hobbies such as gaming and anime

yea i think you have a point, it's just so common when it comes to anime. but i get how it's easy to pick up the interest in anime if you have those symptoms
