'Cool Kids can't/don't watch anime'

I didn't think this question would get this much reviews wow. But literally I'm in college and I'll see people LARPing and people would put them on snap or say rude shit to them and I'll say "you shouldn't judge, its what they like" and the usual response is "It's weird asf, or theyre weird" and people have like this preconceived idea that if you aren't following the norm, you're an outcast and it blows me. And you're right. Everyone jumped on the Pokemon Go bus, but when someones walking around with an Anime shirt on and someone compliments them, they're suddently weird. I really only talked about my love for anime to my close friends because I hated having to explain myself why I liked something, as if I needed too. We had a Japanese club at my school and literally almost all the kids would make racial remarks to the exchange students, all because they were from a different country and asked "do you watch that cartoon porn shit?" Like.. wow I can go on lmfao.

That's the thing, I don't "look" like someone who watches it. But as soon as I open my mouth about it, people get dirty look son their face and it just blows me when I watch their expressions change like lol, my interest don't have to match yours.

People are surprised.. but rather in an "Oh, really?" than an "EW, REALLY?" way. Once they saw me wear FilthyFrank merch or meme shirts they expect the worst anyway.

@jazsminlynn I rarely tell ppl I watch anime but when I do, I do not get this 'look' that you are referring too. But if a black girl told me she watches anime I would LOL.
