Will you love a robot in the future?

ainzooalgown
If/when artificial intelligence gets smarter, will you date it? Do you think love would be possible? http://www.anime-ultime.net/images/img25768.jpg (Eve no Jikan)

@teacup was that a reference to chobits? i can see myself loving a robot if i got one...idk about love love maybe if i was desperate?

I am completely alright with considering a relationship with one as long as the robot isnt being forced as a product to like me. Along with it being truly capable of forming its own values and ideas. Heres a question though lets say both of these statements are true I mentioned. Its fully able to replicate any human function and looks just the same. Not only that but the robot is a close match in terms of personality however a human female with less compatibility but still similar interest is also interested in you which would you choose?

I'm completely fine with it if they are scientent in the since as a human is and is able to repudiate human functions and look like a human and if they are not forced to me via of programming than that is excellent I do not want to be into a force relation ship even if it is by my choice
hell_hound7
yeah i agree i wouldnt want it to be forced. but what exactly do you mean by replicate human functions? doing stuff like eating and breathing? or are talking about stuff like sex?

At that point, I'd count robots as sentient beings, just like us. I, however, feel like a machine could never really understand what it's like to be a biological creature. As such, I'd still prefer a flesh and blood woman. You'd first have to ask if the robot would even want a relationship like that with a biological creature like a human. I mean, what would it truky want and why would it want to become more like us? There would be so many more social barriers to cross before that would even be considered a social norm, even once machines become sentient. You think racism is bad? Just think about how things would be when you want to be with a machine. But, I think it'll be a very, very long time before all of that happens, I mean, AI is still very much so in it's infancy. I just think it'd be interesting to essentially start an entirely new species that we designed, almost as if we were gods. The implications for tech and society at that point both scare and excite me.

@yaasshat The future looks complicated, we will have to philosophize about how to solve these issues in the future. I agree that we are very far from creating an AI as intelligent/creative as us, but I wouldn't say AI is in its infancy, recent AI already surpasses humans in speech recognition, computer vision can recognize objects good enough to drive autonomous cars and machine learning can accomplish great things like winning a Jeopardy game.
