Windows 7 or Windows 10 if you want the most gaming compatibility. If you're willing to take a hit in terms of gaming I recommend looking at PC-BSD: http://www.pcbsd.org/ Its got all the major applications, runs a lot of games through Wine, and is free.

Vulkan is also announced as a competitor to DX12 and works pretty well from what I've messed with, but OpenGL is not too shabby either. And the one thing with Windows 10 is the fact that its loaded with NSA spyware and backdoors. Hence, why I don't use it. I hope you don't have any lolicon on your computer.

I haven't compared VR headsets but at least 3 (Oculus, Vive, Sony) are coming to market soon. The whole reason I play video games is to be immersed in an alternate reality so anything that helps is appreciated. Everything is moving to 4k and it does look better on large screens even if many reasons of it are just to sell related products.

The VR headsets are too expensive and not at all the future of tech. As far as 4K goes they still have to perfect display technology, so trust me when I say, in 5 years it'll be worth it. For now, its not.

The 4k tv's I've looked at are good enough and cheap enough for me to buy for my next tv even if there is virtually no 4k content yet. More games now scale to 4k so I like the extra eyecandy. VR isn't good enough until they can directly plug me into the matrix, SOA style. But moving my head to look around would be nicer than using a mouse.

Ewww..depends on the game though, but I hate controllers for first person shooters. Also having mice with a dpi toggle button is nice. For more relaxed games controllers are fine, such as Bethesda's games.
