Friendship?

I actually had a good friend from here until they got into a relationship. It seems I was just something to fill their emptiness. Still friends but don't communicate with them like I used to since they'll only talk to me when their significant other are away so not dealing with that shit. Nice to have a conversation from time to time though. However, through that friend, I became a friend with their friend and that person is a real good friend than the friend who's in a relationship. I guess all I can say is there's possibilities.

I believe you could, it just takes a while to trust someone. ^u^ But with that said, you should at least meant them face to face a few time. Of course don't do it alone, because that won't be safe. Bring a friend that you know and trust. :3

I think it's definitely possible! ^~^ distance doesn't mean too much when it comes to friendship. I met Miarin here. She is a close friend of mine and me and her live in different countries. ^^ as long as both sides give enough effort then Friendship can happen

Either that ^ or meet in some public place such as a mall. If you're really insecure or want to be on the safe side like Ms. Fancy above me you could have a friend lurk around (stalkerishly?) if the other person isn't comfortable meeting you + your friend directly However I'd recommend that you not go in right away with the mindset of trying to turn online to reality and let it be one of those things that just happens. I also personally would communicate on a regular basis for a good 6 months before considering a real meet.

It's definitely possible. Two of my best friends are a couple of girls I met online 12 years ago. Especially after we've met a few times in person too, I could trust them with anything. We've helped each other through some pretty dark moments in all this time and it creates a bond, regardless of the amount of face time, as it were. Romantic relationships are much trickier, I would personally recommend that you keep them separate from your online life, at least as much as possible. But friendship, no doubt about it. I believe in levels of compatibility when it comes to people. Friendships fall into this category. While it's not impossible to meet people you are highly compatible with in your area, just think about the sample size. It's very limited. The online world opens up a larger sample size, which in turn gives you a much higher chance to meet someone. Both have their advantages and disadvantages but you can't disagree that more people = more chances. :]

I don't see why not. I've made plenty of friends online, just not so much on MO is all.

Depends on the person honestly. I personally am not very good at being very good friends with someone purely on the internet. Mainly because i'm not on social sites very much and I usually tend to use my social media networks as a way to stay in contact with people who I've meet at least once in real life but who don't live local to me. Not that I'm against online friends, it's just that I don't spend a lot of time online so it's harder to cultivate and maintain those relationships

@OP: Yes, it's possible to have meaningful friendships with online friends. I have online friendships with people for over a decade. I never see them in person, but I have conversations with them from time to time.
