So I agreed to do something a little crazy in April, http://thewolfrun.com/ It's a crazy 10km trek through mud and stuff with obstacles to negate and deal with. Going from fairly sedentary in just under 11 weeks should be fairly interesting. Worst comes to worst I'll walk some of the course but I want to be somewhat prepared for it. So I started back at the gym last week and I'm sticking to mostly cardio, although I've been recommended to do some pull-ups (pull down bar initially.) as there are parts of the course that involve monkey bars. It got me wondering if you guys/girls go to the gym? Have you got any tips? What keeps you motivated? I've done some gym in the past and found the progress you make week by week intoxicating and fulfilling. I only stopped due to injury, though I weak excuse I'm sure I could have done other bits but it through me off it for a while.

I used to take boxing lessons and loved ir but got expensive. I also did the Tough Mudder in 2014. I learned very well that i should have done lots and lots of pull ups.

Pretty much what you already said, the progress is what keeps me at it. From my time at the military I can tell you that the thing you need most is determination. Depending on what your training goals are, your diet is very important. Believe me. Get some knowledge about it and make yourself a meal plan. Since there is swimming involved, I recommend you to do some swimming, aswell. I don't know how far you have to swim in that wolfrun, but swimming is very different from running and climbing. Prepare for it. Also, I can recommend heavy footwear. Thick rubber soles. Has a great passive training effect if you wear those in your daily life for a while. Of course, wear something light for the run. Good luck, have fun!

If I felt I could afford a gym membership, I might consider getting one, but for now my old balance board and Wii Fit U have served me well. Back in April of last year I had ballooned up to 208 pounds and was eating like complete crap. Fast food every other day, averaging almost a liter of soda daily, and being a lazy schmuck. I know I had to get back on the horse so I made small incremental steps. I weaned myself off Soda and made an effort to start eating better and eating out less. From April to July I fell from 208 to 203 just by improving my diet and eliminating soda but I still wasn't exercising. Then toward the end of July I badly threw out my back to the point I had to take three days off from work to let it rest. I work at Gamestop so I'm on my feet most of the day and do some lifting when needed. That I guess you could say was my epiphany or breaking point. I just turned 35 and had back pain as badly as someone as twice my age. That's when at the end of July I dug out my balance board after having gone on a similar health kick back in 09 and slowly started working an building an exercise routine and from early August to November I fell from 203 to 180 lbs. I'm now down to 175 after having plateaued a bit. I spend a good 90 to 100 minutes a day of strength training, yoga, and light cardio and all the motivation I need is to think back to that back pain I had and how it literally made it almost impossible to get out of bed. I also had some personal motivation in the fact I had been sick of being rejected by girls and me being overweight contributing to that as well as living in WI, we have our fair share of overweight people, and just looking at them and never wanting to be that is more than enough to get me on my balance board 5 to 6 days per week. The motivation is different for everyone. Just finding it and harnessing it is key. Taking small incremental steps like dropping soda and eating less junk food is a good start.

When i did my Military BMQ at 16, we did a 13km Ruck march with a Ruck that weighed 54+ pounds, and add your rifle in your arms(C7A1, it's the worst fucking feeling after that first 6km) We we're told to tape our feet so that blisters wouldn't show up, but that barely helped. The Thing that kept me motivated was my M.Cpl. Guy was a PT God! Honestly, i kept humming tunes to keep my mind off it. Although... It didn't really help; at the end... it's all about you, you have to make a conscious decision to keep going, there's no way in getting your mind off it. You just have to want to do it and want to succeed.

Usually walking with video game music in my phone and Bluetooth headset is my most common activity. Last September, I walked an average of 12,500 steps a day. But I usually hate when outdoor weather interferes with my outdoor activities. Sometimes I work around the kitchen, which I heard on The Chew on ABC that it burns more calories than playing hacky sack, as long as you don't eat much.

less than a year ago I was active in kendo. It was physically demanding work and I got many bruizes but I loved it! Right now though I get all my working out from my job.

I go for roughly two hours a day at least 4 days out of the week. It's good to keep yourself in shape.
