Gun Control

@Reisudo-san I agree completely that if someone wants to kill, the will. But that's why it's important to limit their options when it comes to weapons. I doubt we'll ever be able to stop Sandy Hooks, Aurora, COs or Columbines. But when they happen, what types of weapons will be at their disposal? Do you think controlling things like ammunition types or mag size will help in that regard?

For all we know they might choose a bloody crossbow to kill someone. And then what regulate archery related things because it promotes murder? As for gun education, it is necesary but the problem (a big part of it) is mainstream media I.e. movies, tv series, some cartoons, where young kids see this and think guns are cool. They don't really comprehend that you can't just shoot thousands of rounds and nobody is going to get hurt, or every bullet will magically hit its target.

That sounds like regular psych evals to me. Otherwise a person can pass an initial competency test but have their mental state degrade in subsequent years. However having to have a psychological screening every few years probably would feel a bit intrusive to many.

Regular psych evals ... yup I'm sure everyonw who currently owns a gun will be able to both afford this and pass it, especially if it is in a manner like getting your car for maintainance (sarcasm)

I do agree that it's mostly problems with people rather than in inanimate gun itself, but I also agree that there should be regulations as to the types of weapons and ammunition that civilians can buy. There's just a line between recreational shooting at the range and straight up about to coup the government *cough* patriot groups aka heavily armed racists *cough*....

That's not the issue, our founding fathers know and knew that governments can be overtaken and controlled from the inside and thus the second amendment was a fail safe if for whatever reason we needed to overthrow our own government. That is what the people are afraid of, losing that check and balance system. Sure fifty years from now, or one hundred years from now what if the federal government overrules our bill of rights? It has happened in many countries like Mexico over the course of their independence.

Shrink: Do you intend to shoot and kill somebody in the relative near future? You: Nope. Shrink: Ok then! Well... see ya in a couple years! The most effective method we've seen so far remains the control of the types of weapons themselves.

People will kill each other regardless. But no reason to make it easier. Really you should look at Japan if you want to reduce gun violence. But everyone here is obsessed with guns...
