Remember RPG's that were actually fun and good?

@kichigai913 I disagree with you there. FF11 was amazing when it was released then along the years it deteriorated. Instead of actual parties and leveling with storyline nowadays 95% of the community spend all their time in Gusgen Mines on the book skeleton hunt to level all the way to 99. Not even Rune Knight and Geomancer can save it now because of that, and now it's just a race to level everything to 99. That's where it really is where you get absolutely nothing for playing a game. If there's a basis behind it at least then there's worth to it. Level Sync was a step in the right direction, but when it turned into a solo player game for the most part it fell apart fast and just turned into a complete grindfest game. What I got out of playing it over the years were being able to meet awesome people in different linkshells I stayed in over the years and some I still talk to, but now about how much the game is boring and how it was better before when people actually did storyline quests and not just grind in the mines.

Oh, when I was complaining about that, I was piling all MMO's together. not just 14 or 11. I honestly don't like MMO's at all and will never understand them

No love for Legend of Dragoon for the PSone? That was an RPG I found to be really fun, including the grinding. The story was pretty awesome too.

I absolutely HATE LoD. I hate Dart, I hate the black dragoon woman who crapped out powers, I hate the story, I hate the ENDING. I ESPECIALLY HATE THE ENDING. And that's saying a lot since I am in love with dragons

Valkyria Chronicles was really good. If they brought the third game over here it'd be great. And one reason enough to find an emulator would be Seiken Densetsu 3. If you're inclulding action rpg games then Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma are pretty good too. And from the NES days Crystalis is still an all time favorite

I had this same issue and complaint. Then kami-sama handed me Persona 3 and persona 4 And now I don't give a shit He also granted emulators to my android phone so I csn play 99% of the old games mentioned. What I will say is the more a company gets away from the formula that makes a game type great. The more the genre suffers. For EX: the way resident evil Is now vs earlier installments Where I will play devils advocate is where people expect things to stay the same forever. Things in gaming are constantly evolving. And whether I like it or not the mass majority ogf nu-gamers want a different experience as a whole than true-gamers. That being said ill go with a controversial game for ex: FF 13. Forums like these and others where the majority of true gamers tend to huddle is where you hear the most amount of complaints for this log in ff series. Okay give the company some freaking grace. I appreciate the company for staying inventive and trying to improve on the gods they already created. Think of the ideals of the company for trying to break ground and innovate the franchise much like dead space revived survival horror from the brink of nonexistence. You can ultimately hate 13 and the games coming after it but to be honest (wrong or right) had the largest launch of any FF todate. (Wikapedia best selling game franchises) and is only currently outsold by ff8 and ff7. Yes it was clunky, yes the game has problems, and yes it was an experience they felt tbey needed to put onto the gamers rather than let them find that for themselves which was ultimately was their biggest mistake. (Japan loved the game btw) however regardless how you feek about the game don't ignore when the company pays their mind to excellence. Albeit perfect, ff13-2 was a FARCRY from its predecessor. It really felt like a ff13 mini story but they nailed so many elements that detracted from the first one i almostddidn't care. No forced progression, no clunkiness, I could pick up and pop in pop out as I please. Regardless where you stand on those games. People tend to get carried away with opinoon and it cripples insight into the future. I feel like it will be a sore mistake to miss the third game. It looks absolutely wonderful and I completely expect it to nail it. Theyve got experience with what they need to do, and its been constantly improving on what people say can't be done. Just look at ff 14 and ff 14 arr. .no one would have expected the success they're having now after that atrocity they put out. So just look out kiddos. Btw someone mentioned not getting mmos. I didn't either. Ff14arr has no grind. Its a strong narative you just happen to play with others. To be honest its one of the best games all year and one of the best rpgs of the new era. You spend time as if it were a real regular rpg untik endgame.

@kichigai: haha wow, "no love" must've been an understatement. @highixiwind: Well put. You have to take in mind the company making the game. Nowadays, it seems like there's people on two different sides; the ones asking for less deviation from past formulas (which there prolly is more of now after the backlash from recieved from FF 13) and the ones that would be asking for more innovation (which there'd prolly'd be more of had their newest installments stuck more strictly to their old formula) I can agree with some people when they say that 13 isn't the strongest FF game out there, but I can't say that the game in it's entirety blows. The game did get some things right, (Besides the flashy awesome graphics) and it seems that sometimes people can't see that over the faults the game has (which, c'mon, What game doesn't?)
