How long have I been an Otaku:
I got an early indoctrination to games, animated pics, and the web by the time I was four years old. The Atari 2600 was hot, NES was about to hit, Liquid Television was coming in on MTV, and the internet had shed it's first skin to reveal Prodigy dial-up, which I discovered thanks to my father's endured employment as an IBM mainframe maintenance technician.

With a PS/1 in our house, it took just one click for me to lose my whole day online, then playing Silpheed and Duke Nukem: Shrapnel City until I was dramatically dragged away to bed. Ren & Stimpy showed me the value of friendship in thirty minutes, Beavis & Butthead defined stupidity in no time flat, and I saw Ninja Scroll when I was ten. I was captivated by the fusion of exaggerated elements and realism, and I knew I was already in love with a cultural phenomenon.

How Otaku am I? Well, I just finished Oreimo 2, and now I want the PS3 game, both limited edition box sets, to read it as my first manga series, and the cosplay card deck (spotted it shipping from China, legit?). If that says nothing, I'd be happy to discuss what I've viewed thus far. I used to dabble in Japanese audio cassettes at the local library, and now I want to learn to read Kanji properly so I can play the damn game with some serenity!

I own the following titles, but I've seen a bit more:

- Ninja Scroll & Resurrection
- Katamari Damacy & Forever
- Rocko's Modern Life, the complete series
- Akira, The Maxx, some Beavis & Butthead, South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut, etc.
- Just picked up Shigurui: Death Frenzy, Samurai Champloo, and Basilisk all over the holiday season, the last of which I bought on a "book-cover hunch."

I never thought of myself as an Otaku until I finished Oreimo, but now I am thankful to declare that it's one of my favorite things about my life. I have simple, yet refined values: good food, a comfortable setting/riveting adventure, great friends, and plenty of entertainment. Everything else falls into place with me, and so I want to keep my eye on the ball as well as make lots of friends that share my interests. I hope you will show me that you feel the same way.

Yatta!!! XD
