Lamby, stop it. We defeated the Native Americans a long time ago. You don't need to rub it in their face. You know how salty they get about it. No....our age old enemy. Those fucking northerners.

Modern War is a shallow comparison of what it once was, it used to be two foes of various sizes meeting on a battlefield. Now its a dance trying not to piss off other countries while trying to accomplish whatever goal there is in said war. The types of war have grown greatly sure but the results of success have shrunk considerably.

Well, Medieval wars used to be tons of sieges. Field battles were actually not as common, hence why they were recorded with such interest. Commanders realized that putting their armies (which used to take a ton of time to gather, train, equip, and resources to maintain) at risk on the field probably wasn't worth it, especially if you lost. Taking the enemies' towns and holdings without a battle was the ideal scenario, hence why you'd siege them out and hope they surrender before their support shows up. Modern commanders realized that waging an expensive war to get stuff you want when there are other ways around it is a much better idea. Why waste your country's resources when you can train some rebels/guerrillas or get other guys to do it for you? Warfare evolves, I mean the Napoleonic era was lines of infantry shooting at other lines 50 yards away while cannons occasionally tore them apart, what's so good about that?
