Achieving Our Goals

@Sunbae I re-added it. I don't know how it works, but I think if you do get it and can't go on, they would just go to the next person anyway. Also, I think, if you're really good enough, there is a good chance that they might wait for you. But I'm just taking a guess.

Awesome thread fang! I have a woodworking project that needs to get done. I already put a deadline on it for September 18th. I need some more motivation. ^.^' @shytaku Keep up the hard work! I'm rooting for ya! Btw, not too long ago I found out about this really cool free site called getyedone.com. It's an RPG style task list that takes your goals and turns them into quests! What helps to motivate you is the literal leveling up of your character and your chosen skills.

160910 - Progress Report 4: Good and bad news: ACT 1 is still 99% complete (#WOMP). The reason being: I completely reworked the final dialogue (again) and MAN OH MAN it's like 30% less text (meaning less to draw) while adding more relevant humor. For example, let's say you're writing a story about hair which includes a bunch of football jokes. You'd think "Oh wait why do I have so many football jokes? I should add more hair puns!" and that's basically what happened in ACT 1... I love it sooooooooo much!! (almost as much as I love myself, tee hee~ (っ^ω^c)) ("Ew...") (shut up) (#LAUGHTRACK) ACT 2: ...didn't even look at it (#WOMP) Week 4: SUCCESS!!! Things to Improve: At this point I'm just revising ACT 1 over and over again, and while I love the outcome, I need to complete the script by September 30th!! That's... LIKE LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AWAY!!! ("So wait did you gung-ho this week?") Well... not exactly. I wrote on Wednesday and did 30 mins every day thereafter. If I can write at least an hour a day for ACT 2, I should be in the clear! Kawaii Girl #2: https://i.imgur.com/CuHZvje.png Last time I checked, Warrior Princesses can be kawaii, too!... or whatever she is. I kinda get a Star Wars/Splatoon vibe from this one, and I haven't even seen Star Wars or played Splatoon yet (okay I've played the testfire demo but I don't own the game...) I only managed a sketch this time around, which is okay since my goal only specified sketches so--(#WOMP). It was relatively quick, but that stupid head-dress/helmet/hair-thing/whatever had me going "Oh should I give her a helmet? Oh should I make it orange? Oh what about this? Oh maybe it doesn't need it after all. No wait let's put it back. Hey what time is it?"... for like 2 hours (#LAUGHTRACK)......... Long story short, I like this simpler version more https://i.imgur.com/GHTjCwf.png Side note: I didn't play Style Savvy this week... ;_; Also, I know her sword is totally impractical but that's what anime's all about! @JackTechno: Thanks! Admittedly I haven't been working as hard as I should... but I will try my best! @Hoodedfang: That's a pretty good idea. Part of me feels like I'd be wasting time creating different scenarios but it's not like I'm a stranger to wasting time (#WOMP). I'll test it out this week! "EW yo dress is ATROCIOUS!!!!" "Yeah, I guess you're right..." "You should take it off right now!" "Sure..."....<--- that is actually genius, WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!?! Though honestly, and this may sound weird... I never get sexually aroused by my own characters. Ever. Not trying to shame you or anything! Just saying that I totally forgot there's a market for it! :P (not saying that I don't feel that way towards OTHER characters tho!) I checked out your game trailer. First off, wow! Not many people can show off a trailer/demo so absolute props on that! I do have a few comments on the trailer itself (I'd talk about gameplay but I haven't actually played it; I'm just going off the trailer. I also understand version "0.2" is quite early in development so things are bound to change. It's good to keep these notes in mind, though): You spent... ONE WHOLE MINUTE explaining a very lethargic story about giving life to a snowman and blah blah blah and I kid you not, people will close the video after 22 seconds. Maybe even 10! I say this because I closed it after 10 seconds (#LAUGHTRACK)... but I also say this because the first minute is absolutely dreadful and unnecessary. That's a huge problem. You don't want to lose potential customers over a few lines of text. You wanna show them your product and its value. What purpose does my game serve? In what way can it enrich a person's life? The actual gameplay and beginning text have no relation other than having snow... Not to mention the unnecessary bold text. "LIFE, PROTECT, ANOTHER, SNOW", I mean... it's bold for a reason, right? People will notice, try to put the words together, then feel cheated when it doesn't click. We have to make conscious and intentional decisions so the audience can follow this so-called story about life and a snowman (Also, NO SNOW-WOMAN?!?! THIS OPPRE--ERR, I MEAN!!!) (It's cool tho :P) I bet you already know this but it must be said: You really need a better placeholder for that snowflake sound-effect. The one that goes "CREEEEEIIIII" in a chalkboard-like manner. No one wants to collect something that sounds like that! (I assume the snowball needs to collect as many snowflakes as possible to become a snowman?... which is actually an interesting concept/story-element!) (Or maybe he has to collect snowflakes to prevent himself from melting? Also a cute idea! Anyways idk). Back to the point at hand, you gotta brainstorm how you feel/what imagery pops up in your head when you see a snowflake. Snowflakes are generally pleasant (the opposite of hail, for instance). So let the sound reflect that. Maybe something feathery. Take Super Mario's coin as inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfx6yf8pux4 (I think you can replay by pressing "0" on the keypad) It goes "bu-REENG!" Two notes. One low leading to a high. If it's only the high, it becomes irritating, so the first note acts as the start of a crescendo. It's uplifting, IT'S SATISFYING, and they flow into each other so collecting more is ULTRA SATISFYING. Like "bu-REENG!" - "Wait? Only one coin?! BUT I WANT MORE!!!" - "bu-REENG bu-REENG bu-REENG!!!" - "YIPEEE!!! WOO HOO!!! MAMA MEEEEYAAH!!" This brings to my next point... fast-forward to 1:20 of your trailer:. Your snowman tries to follow the snowflakes trajectory... but misses the last three... YOUR SNOWMAN ISN'T DESIGNED TO FOLLOW THAT TRAJECTORY?!?! WHY DID YOU ARRANGE THEM THAT WAY IF IT'S NOT POSSIBLE?!?!? And if it IS possible, WHY DID HE MISS?!?! Y'know how Sonic runs fast? And when he doesn't run fast or hits a wall, you wanna burn your controller? Case in point: when your audience sees this snowball miss his snowflakes, they immediately think "Oh, this game must be broken" or "That wasn't supposed to happen, was it?" or "Why are there so many mistakes in this trailer?" In short, your game is heavily flawed based on the trailer, OR your trailer is doing a huge disservice to your game. FIGURE OUT WHICH APPLIES TO YOUR GAME!!! AND CONSIDER THE NEXT STEP!!! Good points: Polar Roller is a pretty good name! bu-REENG!!

CONCEPT REPORT 1 - 9/10/2016 I didn't work on anything this week because I managed to get my work computer back and been trying to reset to how I want it again. I have four days off from work this coming week, so I'll be working on the game's story and the game itself if time allows it. I'll also will be trying to go to bed at an earlier and reasonable time to work throughout my mornings. So that's all I have for this week's report.
hoodedfang
@Jack Thanks. I'll get to adding you when I get around to it. I'm a little out of it at the moment. @Shy Thank you for your criticism and points on the matter. I'll have a full reply explaining everything you talked about at another time when I'm not so tired. But I will state that this game was a school project and most of everything that happened in regards to sound and snowflake placement was someone else's doing. I just programmed it, though I made the trailer and will explain that later as well. I will also reply to your report as well.

"I just programmed it" ...THAT'S EVEN MORE AMAZING!!! It's unlikely that a programmer has creative control over these decisions, which explains everything. That and working in a group can be taxing but at least you have something to show for it. I can't exactly see your code but the game functions to a certain extent, and that's only possible with a programmer. That is... YOU!!! GOOD JOB!!! I'd still like to hear the reasoning for the snowflake placement and sound effect. Did you discuss this with your teammates? Did your teacher haze you about it? :P (I would've...) (but only cause I care!) "though I made the trailer" ...okay you DEFINITELY have some explaining to do! :P Rest up buddy.

"9/4/16 Sunday - 0 words; 9/5/16 Monday - 0 Words; 9/7/16 Wednesday - 0 Words; 9/8/16 Thursday - 0 words" "total words this week: 2605/2500 - SUCCESS!!" <--- THAT'S MAH BOI RIGHT THERE!!! Glad you pushed through (or as I like to call it, "gung-ho")! And thanks! I'm starting to warm up to it now, but I'm kinda worried about next week since I don't think I can up this one (in the cool factor that is). I should probably focus on my script tho... I await your latest art piece, and will likely heart it as I do with the rest of your ark work. :>
