Getting In Shape

neo_s_hinobi
The scale is a scary thing. I'm in the Reserves, so I know how scary the scale is. We get our fitness randomly checked out and have to do a fitness test twice a year. There's my motivation. But here's a story anyway. Before I went into boot camp, I was not in great shape. Couldn't run, couldn't do a whole lot of push-ups, had low stamina. I never really felt like I had to push myself. Well that all changed after some good old face to face time with the Drill Instructors. I was pushed to my limit whether I liked it or not. I kept running when I couldn't feel my legs. My arms kept pushing and pulling after I ignored the muscle pains. I ate free meals that had good portions and nutrients in them. No soda, just powerade and water. Junk food optional, but it cost about 50-100 push-ups depending on what it was. And at the end of those 8 something weeks, I was roughly 20ibs lighter. My motivation was not getting left behind. I was competitive with the other people in my division. I didn't want to be last so I worked hard. Even after everyone went to sleep at around 10, I was up until midnight doing exercises. Motivation plays a big role when it comes to working out. Find out what motivates you, and it will discipline you. Try looking into finding a fitness buddy. When I came back home, I made a friend with a co-worker who was into fitness and he was able to recommend me a good regiment that we both followed for a while. We encouraged each other by always going to the gym together. Now, times have a changed, but I still go to the gym to make sure I don't gain back what I've lost. It has a positive effect on your psyche too. Especially, when you make progress in your time/reps/weight. tl;dr Working out is good for you, and you should make time for it at least 2 or 3 times a week. I haven't even talked about dieting yet.

My weight has fluctuated so much over the years. In high school, I was about 180 lbs., then down to 160 in college (the lightest I've ever been), then it was 200 around graduation, 220 after getting married, and I eventually got to nearly 250 lbs. at my worst (eating lots of comfort food post-divorce + working a desk job). I'm losing a lot of weight pretty rapidly now though, thanks to diet changes I've forced myself to make for health reasons. I am now hovering at just around 200, and it's been a huge relief; to the point that I actually feel more motivated to work out. Almost every day for the past three weeks I've been doing as many push-ups and sit-ups as I can; usually until I hit the point where it feels like I'm gonna' pass out. Now I'm trying to make myself do it both morning and evening, as well as adding in a mile run every day too. So far so good, but I've done this kind of thing before and it's keeping it up that's always the trick. I'll admit that I've done much better about it this time than in the past, at least. GONNA' GET ME SOME ABS!! WOO!!

Thank you neo, Sunflower, and shawnji for your input. ^-^ I want to try convincing my housemates to try and become healthier too. I'd like my boyfriend to be a partner with my weight loss goals. However sometimes I feel like I have to start and make a good example for people around me. Thanks to Pokemon GO! I've actually been able to get walks in with my boyfriend and yesterday I had his little brother walk with me. Cleaning the house in any manner would be a lot of benefits rolled into one. My kitten really makes a mess everywhere. There's really no shortage of housework ever. xD

My heaviest was 350 my smallest 124, I'm now 172 and still losing. The main thing for me is portion control and to continously drink water. I had a lot of weight gain after 3 major abdominal surgeries in 2 months. Everything is still kinda shifting around, but, like anyone else I have good and bad days. The main thing is to not give up. Also, Pokemon Go has been helping a little. The game itself is basically a reward system for walking outside.
