This reminds me of the "Kiowiri" situation.

what was that one?

That person came to this forums and was belligerent af. They tried to reverse it and make it look like they were an innocent female. One guy from this community found out that she was a guy. His name is Steven Chu.

im not sure who it was but there was someone that we found out was a catfish and we pointed out and everyone for some reason flipped and said "omg whats wrong with catfishing?" as if there isnt anything wrong then we brought up anime pics and then they said thats catfishing in a way...which is why i mentioned the anime pic thing

Majority of us have perception issues about ourselves. In my opinion, yes there is nothing wrong with just anime pics. I do it because I'm going to lose my mind if I'm greeted in the same manner again.

Usually it's not hard to spot them. If a girl who's way more attractive than the norm is aggressively taking interest in you then it's a pretty safe bet they're a catfish, but that's just the easy mode ones. On Skype I've encountered automated catfish a few times, they'll ignore pretty much any question asked which makes them easy too. Then you got guys who use more realistic images or no images at all, but even then you can usually tell by the way they type or what they like to talk about. Sometimes guys have a tendency to over compensate and actually act too girly. I encountered one here who seemed to lead on a couple of guys and broke a few hearts. They raised a few flags with me though with photos that looked too good, coming on strong, and not speaking over skype. Friend of mine I introduced to the site seems to believe they encountered one as well who acted a bit manly but then really made things fishy when they started indirectly asking for money.

the sad thing is people tend to associate in the anime community with the aviator people chose that the person is or looks like that avatar male or female
