Racial classification as we know it, i.e. referring to physical traits, began in the 18th century AD/CE An African dynasty, the Nubians, did rule Egypt from 760 BC/BCE till 656 BC/BCE and they were accorded the same respect as other rulers. Egypt was resurgent under their rule and they assimilated into Egyptian society. People in ancient times didn't discriminate against other based on skin colour, they discriminated against each other based on culture and language. The ancient Greeks for example called everyone that wasn't of their culture a "barbarian". Just wanted throw the facts out there before I take a rocket out of this thread :)

Wealth is the great separator. A poor man, black or white, is looked at as lesser no matter where you are. Not saying that's I believe that, but it's the reality of the world.

People also used to "know" that blacks were less than human, too. People used to "know" the earth was flat and only six thousand years old. People used to "know" witches were hexing their children and crops. What people used to "know" changes, but arrogance is priceless... Every nationality has a few stigmas, but that doesn't make it true or right. I just want to know what constitutes race? If a human has a different skin color and thier bone structure is slightly different, are they any less human? The argument that this has all devolved into is not one of truth, rather, it's becoming one that points towards bigoted hate. "Oh, but I have black friends." What a joke... Treat and think of your fellow man as you would have them of you. But, I know as long as wilful ignorance persists, things won't change.

@yaasshat: I see race as nothing but precursors of where our ancestors existed in the world. Any predisposition comes from cultures, not the pigment of our skin. And even still, by deciding to be better you can rise above that predisposition your culture leads you to.
