Too Much Honesty?

oxycore
I'd rather have someone slap me with a fish and tell me what really happened, than someone making a certain thing sound less terrible, despite of how bad it really is. But that differs from everybody. Like with myself, if it's something bad about me, I'd be mad/upset at first, but I'd learn to accept it and do something about ut later on. I can control my feelings pretty well so nothing would get out of hand. Though, not everybody is strong enough for it.

It also depends on the desired outcome and the objective behind telling someone what ever it is your telling them. Or even the reason they seek your feedback in the first place. Sometimes if someone is looking for encouragement, a little white lie may be what's required to motivate them to keep trying and eventually get better. Other times being forthright is best so they know what the real situation is and can make practical changes to become better. But being too honest in a situation that won't benefit from it is pointless. To be brutally honest, sometimes lies are required.

Always good to be honest, but some things just shouldn't be said

Everyone lies. It's in our nature. I don't think that a couple white lies here and there make you a dishonest person... it just makes you human.

For me there is no such thing as too much honesty. Some people don't like honest people because it reminds them of there faults but you should never change for some one else if you think that your way is the better "We can do the right only as we see the right" go for it .

Ah so many replies, but I understand. I've been told sometimes that i'm too honest, even when i'm being polite about it. I've been in those situations as well where its a situation that the truth is something you know that person couldn't handle but they won't drop it, how do you handle those type of issues?

Well if they can't handle the truth, they're either in denial about it or are so sensitive about such things, they go completely off their rocker when it's brought up to them. Frankly there isn't any sort of magic bullet for that kind of situation, but it really depends on a lot of factors like what is being discussed and it's context, how personal it is, and if it's something that has to be discussed sooner than later. At the end of the day, sometimes people may not want to hear it, but a slap up side their complacency may be what they need to fix things in the long run, even if it turns into a very negative situation in the short term.

Here's how you know if you're too honest... If a crazed suicide bomber corners you, asks you if you think they're attractive and you get yourself blown up.... You're too honest.
