Well sonny jim, I used to be in the exact same situation as you through most of my time at secondary school (Or middle school in America, I dunno :I) and my advice to you would be to just be natural in a conversation. Y'know approach people and say hi and how are they doing, they'll ask you the same thing back and you answer their question and then from there just talk about anything. I'm going to make a very wild assumption and come to the conclusion that there's someone that takes your fancy on here eh? Well, ask them if they like a specific anime or a certain type of manga or maybe if they like a certain game that you like. Just try to establish the things you know about said person, see what you both have in common and always show interest in their interests and they will do the exact same for yours and eventually speaking to the said person will be easy as all hell and it will really become second nature and if you're lucky, the said person will show their interest towards you and if you take the initiative - boom, you're in the clear! As long as you're not a complete and total nutcase like I am then you'll have a much easier time than I do :D

Try to ask open ended questions that require more than a yes/no answer, that'll encourage the other person to write more of a response, and maybe even offer you openings for more questions/debate/discussion on the topic.
