If you were gay?

takumi_of_the_wind
The implication of "if you were gay, what would you do" implies that you already have some sort of flexibility on your sexuality, because you'd be thinking about things you're attracted to of somebody of the same sex. The connotation behind that is kind of redundant. If you're not gay, you wouldn't really know what scenario you'd fall under anyway being attracted to somebody of the same sex because you can't really relate to that sexuality.

Not so, Takumi. There are certain traits people have that are gender neutral. Take the character I picked for example. Blue eyes, badass sword fighter, funny, and cool. These are traits I would find sexy in a woman. By picking gender neutral traits that they look for in a mate, one could make at least a fairly accurate guess as to who they would be attracted to if they were the opposite gender. It's not all about dicks and tits here. Think outside the box.

Izumi from Love stage. Adorable. Gatsu from Berserk. Lovely. (Unable to upload image on phone)

I am, and that's why I answered the way I did. You are still being attracted to a male, regardlesss of their gender or gender traits. Sexuality, in general standards, is defined by sexual attraction to a specific sex. If you are attracted to somebody of the same gender, it is homosexuality. I'll leave certain gray-sexualities (Asexuality, Demisexuality, etc) out of the equation because we're talking about specifics in this thread, particularly the "if you were gay" scenario. If you were gay, you'd be gay. If you are attracted to a male, you are attracted to a male. If you are attracted to a female, you are attracted to a female. If you find traits attractive to a character that is male but looks feminine, they are still male and that is still, by definition, homosexuality. Nothing wrong with that in the least, but it should bring to consciousness to explore one's own sexual identity over playing a "what if" scenario. Because the "what if" is already there.

I agree with you Arc, especially since its not gay to think someone's attractive either because that's literally your aesthetic telling you "wow, hot damn they look good." Straight girls think this all the time and they're still straight. Gay men often think a similar thing towards women but it doesn't mean that they're straight. Thinking someone looks good doesn't mean at all that your sexually attracted to them. edit: and of course it goes both ways with personality traits, thus why friends are a thing

While that is true, Inexpensitivity, this thread is directed towards sexual orientation. Which is more than just an aesthetic compliment towards a person.

Takumi, I think you are misunderstanding the point of this thread. This isn't about who you are attracted to. It's an exploration of gender neutral traits. Would I bang Yato? Hell no. I have an appreciation for his traits, some physical, and some personality wise that complement the non gender specific things I look for. This exercise can be done by anybody, no matter how straight or gay they are. To put it into simpler terms, just take whatever character and flip the gender. Would you feel attracted to the opposite gender version of that character?

Then why ask "If you were gay?" It still doesn't make sense if that's what you are going for. A more appropriate title would be, "What Physical Traits do you like in an Anime Character/Person". Asking somebody "if you were gay", that's a very straightforward response. You either are, or aren't. Probably why more than half of the responses here have been either "I am gay" or "Bi" or related to sexual orientation.
