Well, I finally beat Trails from Zero this past weekend! It ties so much into Trails in the Sky that I feel like they could have just called it Trails in the Sky IV and nobody would have been the wiser. Joshua and Estelle are a HUGE part of it, and from what I understand, Kevin and Ries (Sky the 3rd) are just as critical to the next game. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend going back and playing all the previous games if you ever get the time and want to learn more about the overall plot. I found out some stuff regarding Cold Steel III yesterday that really, really surprised me. I'll just say that the number of throwbacks is going to leave you incredibly confused if you haven't played the other games.

Yeah, I've got my English version sitting on the shelf just waiting for that patch to come. :D Congrats on the plat, man!

Well, I think it was mainly because XSeed's work on Ys had been so impeccable up to that point that it really bothered people; and having played the Japanese version and watched some of the English version played, I can certainly tell you that it reads very poorly in comparison, and some things are just outright wrong. Still, I think people who are very accustomed to reading a lot of anime subtitles won't really bat an eye at most of it; and hey, at least you get the Japanese audio! As for Sen III, there is DEFINITELY a Sen IV coming. The game ends with text that essentially says just as much, but yeah it really got a lot of Japanese players ticked off. There are a ton of one star reviews on Amazon Japan that read like, "I loved the game all the way up until the end, and then I wanted to kill myself." I'm overplaying it a bit, but you get the idea. My understanding is that not only is it a cliffhanger, but it ends in such a bad place that it leaves you feeling really frustrated. I'm extremely curious, but have tried to avoid learning anything beyond that. I haven't heard anything about an announcement yet, but it's only been about a month since release in Japan, so they're probably still negotiating. I can tell you that there will likely be rioting in the streets if anybody other than XSeed announces it, though. ^^; OH! I also wanted to tell you that there are mods out now for Trails in the Sky FC and SC on PC that add the voice tracks from the Evolution versions, as well as the remixed music and art if you want it. It works really well, actually! If you're interested, I can point you in the right direction.

Well, I just won't tell you then. :P Seriously though, I'm actually still trying to finish up Zero right now. :( I'm just such a completionist when it comes to these games that it takes me forever to get through 'em. I decided I had best hold off on Cold Steel II until I got through Azure because there's just so much overlap in the timeline there, and you really are meant to have played it first. I'm incredibly stoked for Sen III! The fact that it's got Tita and Agate from the Trails in the Sky games, as well as Randy and Tio from Zero and Azure has me so pumped for it. I'm already in love with the cast from the Crossbell games, so Falcom has me totally invested in seeing all of these stories intertwine. My only concern is that Japanese reviews on Amazon have been rough because Sen III apparantly ends on the mother of all cliffhangers and people are PISSED... Going back to Ys VIII, did you hear that NISA actually issued a formal apology for the localization and are working on a patch to fix it? There was a letter writing campaign to Falcom about it, and a Japanese website even picked up on it, so it became kind of a big deal. Oh, well. At least it's apparantly not as bad as Tokyo Xanadu, which supposedly has stuff just completely left in Japanese. XD

Yay!! I'm so glad you picked up Ys VIII! I hope you enjoyed it (outside of the somewhat dodgy localization)! I'm glad to hear your move went okay too; even though I'm sure it was a rough experience. I already hate moving, but moving across the country is a whole different beast altogether. Props to you for powering through! :D I've been good! There's been all kinds of stuff happening in the interim, but overall I thinj things have worked out for the best. ^^
