Favorite/Least Favorite Fire Emblem character

Echoes's Art Style had an air of elegance to it if that makes sense. Very pleasing to look at and vibrant, also as swadian said, crispy and full of life

The thing that I liked about Shadows of Valentia art is. It was detailed, there were personalities inside the portraits, you could see them knowing it was a grim situation and still trying to cope up with it somehow, they looked happy, cheerful but at the same time somber and with a glimpse of depression lurking in due to exhaustion and anxiety. Damn, I missed all of this FE discussion. Curse me being busy. xD Anyways, yeah I wanted to give my 2 cents on the Fire Emblem series as a whole since Elitism seems to be a hot topic. There are a lot of Elitist fans who liked Fire Emblem back when Shouzou Kaga was still involved with the series. I actually knew of one way back when in the past. He was an interesting guy and a very hardcore Kaga fan. He never talked down to other newer fans and was passionate about the games. But he hated Fire Emblem games after Thracia 776. I mean, I can understand why. There was always something uniquely different about each and every game when Shouzou Kaga was involved with the series back in the day. The very first Fire Emblem was a straightforward simple SJRPG that changed the way we saw them. There was never a video game where you were in control of character's lives in battle. Or the fact that enemies were forced into fighting but they weren't bad at all. So you have to think of clever ways to recruit them into your side. And when they died because of one flimsy mistake you made they are dead forever. This more realistic idea became a staple to the series at least until FE12 introduced casual mode to introduce new players to the series so they could have a more enjoyable experience. The very first Fire Emblem is heavily flawed and not fun to play, but for the time it was pretty revolutionary. The remakes of the Akaneia series are better though. I like Monshou no Nazo on Snes when it came to sound and storytelling, but the DS remakes have better characterization and the soundtrack is pretty good so is the gameplay. Although, I don't really mind dismounting in the Snes remakes at all personally. Then Gaiden came along, and while I don't personally like this game and prefer Echoes over it. Echoes made it much more fun to play with its attention to detail, the characters are more defined as characters. The game was really unique that it took on more of a classic JRPG style, but it was still an SRPG at the same time. There's an overworld and you can train to gain experience, and you're allowed to use every unit at your disposable. Genealogy of the Holy War was the third installment. This game was unlike the previous games since it had longer maps this was more of an Epoch in terms of how the Fire Emblem series was going. There was 2 generations, The Tale of Sigurd and the 2nd half focused on the children of the first generation. I love the Storytelling in Genealogy of the Holy War more than the actual game itself. It actually took risks in the kind of story it was going for. Cults, incest used as a plot device, and the overall tone felt more darker than the previous games. Thracia 776 is probably one of the best of Kaga's works. It is brutally difficult, but it's so incredibly inventive that never you even see any of this in other Fire Emblem games. First it introduced Fog of War, the enemies could be captured and you can take their items/weapons. This mechanic was really deep because you literally start with nothing in the beginning. You felt like you were in desperation constantly on the run and you have to fight back trying to reclaim back what you lost. There was also a fatigue stat where if the fatigue number surpassed the character's HP you cannot use that particular character for that chapter until the next one. Or the only way you can prevent that is if you use a Stamina drink to replenish that character's fatigue meter.It's actually realistic like it makes sense when you're worn out from battle naturally you'd get tired. Dismounting also came back for certain chapters you're unable to mount on fliers or horseback indoors. The story is really really good too for a midquel. Again, like Genealogy of the Holy War, it has a very dark overtone and atmosphere in its overall storytelling. Leaf is honestly imo one of the better well written lords in the series and the youngest I think? Not to mention he's the only one with brown hair. But you sympathize with his struggles because he lost everything and even later down the road he makes drastic mistakes with consequences.

Oof there so many characters I just don't know. I liked Camus a lot because he wasn't evil, he was just serving his country and was even more loyal to the princess than the country. Athena vas cool because of our foreign accent and dialect. Ike starting as a somewhat childish mercenary being put in charge of things and maturing to become a powerful leader everyone look up to. He's blunt but modest and honest, I like him a lot. It's weird he's slow and heavy in Smash while in his own games he's really fast and do flips while airborne. I hate Camilla. I hate most characters in Fates Birthright (I haven't played Conquest or Revelations though). Like, I'm a old FE fan I like the old games more ^^' but book 2 and FE4 are terrible. FE4 is probably one of the most unfun game I've ever played and it ruined me wanting to play every Fire Emblem in order because I don't want to play it again. I'll do it eventually but I have to force myself. Lots of things are cool about it, I like the story too. But you need a guide to play it or else you'll miss a ton of useful items and your pairings will be bad. My main points are: -Pairings are super important but you have to make units stay close by to build relationship (events help but aren't enough), BUT let's make half the characters move twice as much as the other half because they have horses -Cannot trade: you have to sell an item in the pawnshop and buy it with the other character... why? -No potions, you have to stand on a church and wait a turn (it's a full heal though) or another character use a staff on them -Getting Tyrfing in chapter 5 is so luck-based -Game not giving you enough information, like, there are lots of guides but the game should be telling you things by itself especially if they're important. I have raised characters to max level before promoting them and they didn't reset at level 1.

@cupcakerin, I definitely agree with you on most points except I honestly don't hate Camilla. Believe me, I was ready to hate this character when the Fates trailer came out, but I was pleasantly surprised by her support conversations. It's just her character design is plain bad and she becomes this sex object. I liked the motherly side and she had this twisted fierce personality side about her. Even to the point you kinda could feel some sympathetic to her because of her childhood and the way she is when spoiling Corrin. I think there could've been a badassery to her had Camilla had a better design. I don't personally find the Hoshido characters all that interesting except for Kaze and Saizo. This is just my opinion, but I found the characters on the Nohr side far more interesting. I really hate Charlotte's design, but the idea for her character is kind of intriguing. Acting weak and defenseless on the outside just to impress men, but she's tough on the inside and doesn't want to show it. There's a two sides to her. It's not a character you're supposed to like, but feel sympathy for. And I like the whole connection that Severa, Inigo, and Owain had in that universe. Anyways yeah, Chapter 19 book 2 in FE3 still gives me nightmares. Elephants man those Elephants amrite? Also, certain character specific recruitments in the Jugdral games are not very well explained either. Like the Xavier recruitment is among the worst in the series or Hannibal.

About artsyle and character design, for me Shadows of Valentia nailed it, and I would wish Hidari stayed as character designer forever. I love 3 Houses, but the only thing I hate is the character design. It's a really subjective opinion, but for me this is not how a Fire Emblem game should look like. It loses the "classic" look that a some sort of medieval game should have and aims instead for a modern look....like a Persona wannabe or something. ...again, really subjective, so I never feel I can put in words exactly what I like or dislike about it. And about old games, I don't blame anyone for not liking snes games. Old RPGs usually had the mechanics and guides explained in the manual that comes with the physical copy of the game. I imagine that's the case for those games aswell, so you are in a way "forced" to look some guides to understand how the game works. I don't insist to people about making them play those games because they are a big hit or miss with most people. ...and sorry, but about what I saw about "the fanbase" being a reason to not play a game is really dumb to me. Not just for these games, but for anything. I'll never understand it, but I see it commonly. The only game I really dislike is Shadow Dragon. It was a really bad attempt to bring back Marth. Ugly character design, ugly game graphics, boring animations, they didn't bother making supports to flesh out the shit-ton of characters in the game....among other things. Really disappointing.

I forgot about elephants man I just remember lots and lots of manakete that fly around with 12 movement and ignore your defense and can 2 shot most of your characters. Thankfully their accuracy is bad but it just make a lot of the chapters a luck based mission. I'll also take into account about Camilla but I can't see her support conversations without playing Conquest ^^' while previous FE did have some fanservice designs, it was nothing like the jiggling boobs and ass close-up on Camilla on her introduction, as if to say "this is all you need to know about her guyzz" and personally I dislike when anything tries to bait people with fanservice. Fanservice is a bonus, not a selling point, but that's just my opinion and Camilla just pissed me off because of that.

Yeah, it was the Ghost in the Shell Artist who did the character design for Shadow Dragon wasn't it? Shirow Masamune? The art in Shadow Dragon was very bad.

@ Whisp I also played fe4 myself and it wasnt just fanbase, but it did have a bigger factor in liking the game that it should have. Sadly I'll probably never finish it.

Theres a lot more to Camilla than that tbh. And she does have good supports.
