Do you really want the emotional support or are you more interested in using the relationship. If it's the latter, then you don't really need to care to much about that. As for building your confidence, there are a lot of ways to do that. Everyone is different. Realize it cost nothing to try. Sending a message is practically free, so you should be a bit detached when you are first trying to get into a relationship. You should just keep trying without giving up. This is an important skill. Even applying to jobs requires a certain level of detachment from the results in order to keep your confidence (you will be ghosted at least 40 times and rejected 10 times before you finally get a first professional job in my experience).
