@cup, thats a good point iv heard that maid cafes are super cringey if your not into the moe moe stuff, but really its the same paying someone for their attention and false affection

Lamby: ya I heard something like that too. I think it's strict that maids must act and pretend everything is super interesting and agree with anything they say. Many guys actually believe the maids like him, moe moe or not it's cringy but sad too. For rented bf/gf I don't think it has to be completely fake. I mean, yeah you're only there because you're paid and you have no affection or feelings for them. I think it doesn't mean you can't have fun though, whatever date or activities they decide to do with you. If they wanna talk you could have a genuine conversation with them. I guess it always depends on the person and what they want out of this, or how they act in general. Some people are also completely unbearable, like that one random guy in a game store that told me he was seeking associates to make his own gaming company, but he said he was 20 and knew nothing about programming (I feel like describing the experience in detail but it's off-topic). I dunno maybe I'm romanticizing being rent a tad too much, but I think it can be nice to get someone out of boredom/loneliness and be their sunshine for a few hours even if it means acting and overreacting a bit.

I think the problem is in the places where it's common it's viewed the same as prostitution.

I think the closest thing I've seen here in the US is a service called "Rent-A-Gent", it's for ladies who need dates for one-time things like weddings. Other than that, I never even heard of such a thing until the second season of FLCL 2, hinting at its origins in Asia.

Perhaps instead of renting, volunteering your time might be helpful. I know lots of old folks would enjoy spending some time with some younger folks. Also things like, big brother, big sister would be cool to get involved in as well. Of course none of this pays, but hey, the experience connections you make (in my view) could be worth it. Personally, I don't have any grandparents, so I think it'd be cool to be able to make that connection with someone who's gone through life already and has a heap load of experience or advice.
