why is it harder for otaku's

A lot of colleges and universities have anime club's so if you're in school that's a good place to start and meet people. Conventions are as well, although with Covid times they're probably gonna still be few and far between. I would usually sit in panels and it was always a pretty social atmosphere. Some cons even have speed dating panels but it's usually pretty skewed towards the male demographic from my experience. I don't always recommend the cold approach but I do see people browsing the manga section at local bookstores. Just be tactful when chatting with someone as it can be pretty easy to come across as weird or creepy. Just stick to topics related to anime and manga initially.
