Yeah, where there are money to be made of peace and quiet and happy tourists, there someone making sure those tourists stay happy and spending...

Don't bother the Yakuza, they won't bother you, simple as that. Also you have to remember some of the Japanese population (older mainly) still not a fan of US.

Japan is decently safe, low crime and such. I've done a number of casual arguments with Fukushima fearers so I know how to counter what the mass media says pretty easily. You can't worry too much about radiation as many places in the southwestern us were once used as nuclear test sites so they probably have a fair amount of radiation 60 plus years later

If you want to go to japan, then go :). There would be no reson for you to get involved with the mafia anyway and thr japanese people are very kind. So spread your wings ;)

stick to the major cities and tourist attraction areas, 9/10 someone will know English around there.

Ahhhhh I'm going to south west America this summer!! I think.. And I hope to maybe go to japan one day :P

Japan is probably less dangerous to be then america. America has Tornados, Hurricanes, Nuclear power plants, Earth Quakes, and all the creepy stuff people do that you get to see when you watch the news. Crime ratio's in japan are lower & they ain't got no tornado's. So japan is actually safer then the US. That being said, it's never a good idea to go somewhere alone. So take a fiend.

I wouldn't go alone! that's be weird! I'm going to america later so now it sounds like a scary place!
