The Kimono, Would you wear it?

liyanasilverleaf
I think they would be worth every penny though!

I used to wear Yukatas alot when I teach Japanese, I don't really like the big ones with the Obe, it's very heavy for something worn in summer. My cousin wore a big kimono for her school's cultural day. I feel her pain....>~<

I'm going to be buying a kimono when I go to Japan this summer (well, as long as I get the scholarship I applied for to go on exchange) :)

Do you guys have any ideas on how to make them? I'd like to make one for my sister and I. I would like to make them rather than buy because I have no money but butt loads of fabric

I'd wear a male Kimono or Yukata. I love Eastern style clothes, but my issue is I'd have to wear it mainly Fall and Spring, since summer and Winter aren't very good seasons for that clothing.

I wore one once for hatsumoude but honestly, nobody wears them nowadays because they're a pain. I pretty much stuck out like a sore thumb being 6'0 and wearing some ridiculously expensive kimono wearing sandals two sizes too small. @sillycupcake There's probably some basic patterns you can find online, but the hardest part is actually putting it on (correctly). They have obi's (the sash) that are kind of like clip-on ties. The fancy back knot is already stitched in and you wrap it around and tuck in the excess somewhere that it can't be seen.

I would love to wear a men's yukata at some point. I think it would be nice and relaxing to do so.

I wish I could, but it's too expensive. Especially for a curvy girl like me

I'd love to wear one I have a feeling I'd look kind of weird like a fat mochi. LMAO

If you can't afford a kimono, you could go for the lighter alternative, the Yukata. Yukata are very similar to kimono but lighter, easier to put on, and usually not as expensive. They are often worn on special public occasions rather than the formal kimono. For the most part, I would wear both ^^
