English Sub versus English Dub

simonsanbr
I prefer subs. The way I see it is that it was made in Japan for a Japanese audience, so why ruin it by dubbing it over...

I've watched both in the past. But I have to admit, I love Vic Mignogna, but at the same time, I love Namikawa Daisuke, so it just matters how good the dub is compared to the dub, and most of the time, if it's a comedy and by Funimation, I'll watch the tub, and everything else is either sub or both.

As an amateur (hopefully to be professional) VA, I really love English dubs. Or, I tend to. Lots of dubs now-a-days have been lazy and it's unfortunate because there are a lot of shows that could obtain their own unique charm with a great dub. There are some anime that would be better in English, depending on the setting and time period. Like Kurushitsuji for example. Still, subs are great and fine and I love both!

If the characters are Japanese then sure, go for the Sub because it would atone for the style of social interactions/comedy. However if they're from various different backgrounds/nationalities then having a more western dub would be more appropiate in my opinion. Take Black Lagoon & Jormungand for example. They work really well as Dubs due to the more relatable verbal comedy & phrases (sarcasm and what-not.) https://i.imgflip.com/wzkfi.jpg

I'll take my anime however I can get it. Some subs are better, some dubs are better. These days, they tend to break even about 80% of the time.

I watch either anyway. Subs for the voice acting (I like a few seiyuus) and dubs for easy watching without having to read subtitles. But nowadays I watch subs all the time. Not really against dubs though. Admittedly, I sometimes laugh at dub voices. I don't know why, perhaps it was the acting or the lines. Like when I watched Free! on dub I can't help but laugh lol. Im too used to japanese voices perhaps (Seriously, the best english dub in anime is Ghost Stories)
