@nebelstern It is true. Conservatism and liberalism are different in every country. Conservatives in the US have swung so far into the right-wing populist cucu for coco puffs conspiracy nonsense. Compared to US conservatives. You are a sensible conservative. In fact, conservatives in the US would call you a commie liberal for believing in the basic science of mass vaccination or for not liking right wing populist that say goofy shit or for wanting conservative political leaders who are not totally incompetent. https://i.ani.me/0327/2911/grey.jpg Interesting how you describe liberals in Brazil. Liberals in Mexico are closer to nationalistic left-wing populism. Even though liberals in Mexico can be pretty left leaning. Identity politics in Mexico isn’t as big as it is in the US. Identity politics is mostly an American thing. I've noticed that not only are US liberals obsessed about race, but US conservatives are also obsessed about race as well. Identity politics and race is really intrenched into American political philosophy. https://i.ani.me/0327/2911/grey.jpg Unlike US liberals. Liberals in Mexico are pro oil and are not a big fan of renewable energy. Liberals in Mexico are pro oil industry mostly because of a pragmatic left wing standpoint. That pragmatic left wing standpoint is that PEMEX is a nationalized Mexican state-owned petroleum company. PEMEX brings millions of dollars into the government. No way in hell left wing populist are going to be against state owned petroleum company.

Today is the day! Polls say that Lula got 51% of the votes, which would effectively elect him on the 1st round. My opinion? I don't know if he will be able to form a majority in the Congress so there is a form of damage contention

@a1ephy is right. Even though nowadays american Conservatism (its militants, mostly) tries to remove race from its realpolitik, the country still has glaring problems in its institutions when dealing with race. It doesn't help that the Left forcefully pushes an identity agenda to the masses and the Alt-Right also wants to push identity politics... for white people. Blacks were considered actual citizens in the american imaginary much later when compared to other countries. Racial equality de jure is still a pretty young thing in the US.

About Nationalism, it can be safely said that most Nationalists (and Populists) have little to no content in their speeches. But, it has form, shape. That's what attracts people to them. And that's why they are dangerous (not all Nationalists, but virtually all of those Populists)
nebelstern
I'd say the alt-right is a consequence of mindblown identity politics from the intersectional black/LGBT movement's militants than an actual force on its own right. It MIGHT pose a threat in the future because it opposes mainstream Conservatism with a passion.

The revival of 3rd position (darwinist nationalism like Fascism and Duginism*) in the internet debate is a consequence of the brief period of peace under the 1st position (Liberalism/Conservatism) crumbling and how empty of guiding values the 2nd position (Marxist Socialism) is. Young people are seeking the 3rd position a way to restore an organic society that was lost due to Liberalism and Socialism.
nebelstern
*: Duginists don't consider themselves a 3rd position (they recognize themselves as a 4th), but I do, because they still defend autocratic nationalistic governments. Difference is that they don't vye for supremacy in the world and defend a multipolar world by fostering nationalism worldwide (internationalist nationalism) against the Atlantic bloc (US and the EU).
