Well, it's no secret that I study paranormal and supernatural phenomenon, and occultism, as I find the subjects to be fascinating. (I also practice psionics, so sensing things like non-human spirits is kinda woven into my world view at this point.) Not that I'm anti science though, as I feel it is very necessary to learn how to discern things like the placebo effect, or not be biased to baseless anecdotes just because you want to believe in something. So a lot of what I uncover online generally falls into the "Stupid" or "Pretentious" category. Fear mongering conspiracy theorists, con artists who really want people to believe they could cure any affliction, some interesting things in the P boards every once in a while, all that sort of stuff. There was one board I found in 2011 (Only remember because it was a month before skyrim came out.) that still has me scratching my head though. I forget what it was called. And truth be told, I think they mighta been doing some really meta roleplaying. So keep that in mind. But I remember the people on this board would often just kinda analyze cryptid sightings like it was their job or something. More specifically, they focused on ones that they knew were in fact fake. As in they knew when and where these creatures were created. You know, like how Slenderman came from something awful, chupacabaras end up being animals with mange, that bigfoot video that featured a guy in a gorilla costume, as identified by finding the exact costume online, stuff like that. But even though they were very aware of how fake these things were, they were very serious and meticulous at keeping track of the eyewitness testimonies and such. In fact, the Slender Man had them all really freaking out for some reason. I remember some of them posting things like "Shit, now we gotta deal with proxies too." and "Proxies? You mean fetches, right?" After lurking a bit deeper into their threads, I started to notice a lot of the terms and such they used seemed to relate to fairies. Like really esoteric "FAERY" stuff. (They always spelled it like that for some reason.) Heck, I didn't even know what a dullahan was until reading about someone's supposed encounter with one. But their reactions with one another wasn't like they were taking jabs at each other. It was no nonsense, but you kinda get the sense that these guys felt completely powerless in whatever make believe fantasy world they live in. There was this one guy who completely obsessed about leaving sugar cubes out in a bowl on his kitchen table, but he would always try to disguise a cube of rock salt in it in order to poison a bogart his house was supposedly being haunted by, but every time, he would come back the next day, and the salt cube would be lying on the floor with a clear saliva-like bile on the table. And there would be exactly three bent spoons tied by string to the blades of his ceiling fan. In one of his posts, the image he showed was captioned with "This time, the strings are made of hair. The same color as Cinthia's." Someone else replied with something along the lines of "I wish they would just give her back to you." Ya know, there's a detail I say in my profile about how fairies kinda scare me more than demonic entities. Aside from personal experiences, a lot of the things I read on this forum are kinda responsible for that sentiment.
