I could probably write horoscopes for a living. At least if they paid well, I'm sure they don't. Maybe if I devoted myself to click baiting people or something. From my perspective it doesn't seem hard to manipulate people, it's just that I find it so uninteresting that I can't be half assed to think about the specifics or to apply it. Really, I don't understand how manipulative people aren't bored to tears.

That might come off wrong. You shouldn't keep your opinions to yourself, but politics is a pretty aggressive environment right now. If you are going to engage, try not to put too much into it for now. Use words like "I feel this way" and keep it concise. People will take much less issue with the way you feel if you make it apparent that it's the way you feel, even if they disagree.

The main thing to do after you make a mistake, is determine why you made the mistake, and then work to ensure that it doesn't happen again. Say you say something insensitive about someone's father, and they tell you their father is dead. From then on, you'd determine that you should be more careful about it, deciding that you should only talk about someones father if you understand that they have a father who is alive and well. This principal applies to most mistakes. The cause of the mistake is always different, but you still search to find the cause, and look at what you can fix. So let's say you took the previous example to heart, but you had a friend who's father you actually knew, and you said something mean about him. It turned out that they recently died and you were just never told. The same cause doesn't apply anymore, but a different cause does, something that you did know changed while you weren't noticing. The answer would be to say less insensitive things about people you're not directly engaged with or to better understand the people you talk about. But either way, the world didn't end. It's okay to make these mistakes and many others. If you didn't kill anyone, or irreparably hurt anyone, then you still have the ability to apologize and learn from it. Everyone makes these kinds of mistakes. The difference comes from whether or not you take the mistake to heart, and learn what you can from it. Language is a tool to connect with others. Sometimes the connection we're trying to make doesn't go well and the other person doesn't want that connection. Maybe they disagree with it, or they're not comfortable with it. Even when someone is yelling at the top of their lungs, they're trying to make a connection through language, though it's not a connection that anyone is likely to take. It's important to understand that it's a tool for connecting, so that you can try to utilize it as one. If you're a rocket scientist and you're trying to explain your science to a 4 year old child, it's your fault when it doesn't go over well, because you failed to use language as a tool to connect, and instead are trying to one sidedly force the connection which just won't work.
