@verucassault This is where things got interesting. The punk scene was still in the same vein as the hippies where the idea of "screw the man and the system" was still in place. What I found very interesting is that despite the punk scene was far angrier and more furious than the hippie movement, it was less destructive. I just have the hypothesis that the music and nature of the punk scene allowed for an outlet for people rather that having to suppress more aggressive tendencies.

@verucassault Behaviorally, sure. The two were polar opposites. But the hippies and punks never really went away into the 90s. So they occupied a similar space. Remember, the Hippies were a peace movement during wartime, and the punks were sort of reactionary to the civil injustice in a time of peace. So one thing they shared was a similar disdain for the establishment. Both were very anti authoritarian philosophies and movements at their core. Even if their behavior was radically different, they saw eye to eye on a lot of things. But after seeing so many hippies get the fire hose with very little to show for it, Punks kinda realized they couldn't play nice with the psychopaths in law enforcement. The fuzz have always had it out for the left, people of color, and the disenfranchised, meeting flowers with violence. So, they didn't bother letting them have a chance to escalate things. Punk movement was more about hitting society at its foundations. Hitting that pillar loud enough to get everyone's attention, drop some F-bombs with a message, and hoping that people don't forget it. Then bailing before the cops get their chance to beat the shit out of them. Hence why they embraced Anarchy so readily. Now the problem with anarchy is, much like any extreme ideology, its something that really does not work without a wall to push against. Which kinda makes it as problematic as fascism, communism and many of the other isms. You don't have an enemy, you have nothing to resist, so you kind of grow out of it rather fast. Hence why the punk movement struck in waves with resurgences here and there. I got in around that skater punk resurgence during the bush era, and by then, we kinda had a lot of respect for the hippies because we had our own war going on at the time. They were just a different side of the coin, and you couldn't have Woodstock or Burning Man without them. So no, they didn't rise because of disdain for hippies. They rose because the hippies didn't go far enough, and they were living under the foot of oppression because of it. The Hippies, The Punks, and whatever the Woke kids are calling themselves? They're all kinda family. None of them are perfect, but they kinda mold themselves into what they needed to be in order to get some level of societal change.

@chocopyro I didn’t use the word disdain and maybe opposition wasn't the correct term. But I don't see a person alive during those decades moving from one sub culture into the other because of their core differences, though I'm sure it did happen. I could see hippies moving into more of the disco phase, definitely. The fashion of the hippies definitely bled over into that. Also creepy. This just happened to pop up on my feed. The people who didn't become hippies lol.https://youtu.be/giQxUkZ4Anc

slipknot is incredibly overrated

@yoyoitsnsfw If you ever have a chance to see them live, I bet they could change your mind. Also, oddly enough, leaving that concert, I've never seen a crowd of people so nice and at peace with each other, especially when trying to leave an event from an arena. My voice was gone for 3 days and I felt like I was hit by a bus, but I would do front stage all over again if I could snag the tickies. https://i.ani.me/0247/1108/2194.jpg
