Hello, I'm a Japanese PHD student studying in the Netherlands. I specialize on cross-studies between modern post-structuralist philosophy and Zen Buddhist philosophy. Anime and Manga has been a major influence on my life in terms of first simply as recreation and also as a major inspiration on my aesthetical perception of the world and reality. Love talking about manga anime on all levels from casual "otaku" talk to discussing more profound philosophical implications of particular works. I seriously think anime, manga and games do have profound effect in shaping ethical world views in people and should be talked about on the same plane as how many philosophers like to talk about so called "high-art" (this whole distinction sucks!). I haven't been able to find anybody around me who have similar passions for anime/manga and would love to find friends to chat with!
Used to be really into collecting and building garage kits (anime figures)and gundam models. Still retain the skills, but I'm recently more into utilizing those skills for customizing BJDs. I'm also a relatively frequent visitor to Comic Market and Wonder Festival (well whenever I'm actually in Japan and coincide with it). My sincere love extends to many things outside of anime/manga too, mostly music ranging from rock, metal, jazz, reggae, anime trance/techno to folk, pretty much anything. Also do alot of reading outside of philosophy mostly literature, poetry, mysticism, quantum and cosmo physics, UFOs etc.
Akihabara is definitely my soul home. Always go there when I'm in Japan, though I've been rather bewildered by the recent changes altering the atmosphere of the once lovely "sanctuary" of otakuism.
Lived all around, grew up as a small kid in England, went back to Japan spent most of my time at International Schools, then lived in Thailand for two years during my middle school~high school years, went to a Japanese university with a full English program, did my MA in the Netherlands, now my PHD at the same university.
Used to work part time at a anime/manga related Japanese net shopping site for 5 years (well Animaxis if you've heard of it before).
