I agree to you statement about love. No one should tell you otherwise about loving someone that might possibly be out of your league. When its genuine, it doesn't go away. Respecting one's relationship is also an important key. I use to have a "supposed" soulmate, but she didnt see the love the same way I did apparently after 2 years.
