If it makes you happy, then do it! I see no problem with cosplaying as your OC. It doesn't matter if it turns out bad because you put effort into it! Go for it :) Judging by your profile picture, your OC looks very unique. It won't be that hard to tell that it's a cosplay and not everyday attire. It won't be a waste of time, as long as you enjoy making it and it turns out to your likings! Good luck!
