Crocodile is a great villain. And his arc had a great story. He shows up again if you haven't watched up to the impel down arc.

I feel like it's easy to fell into the attitude that modern anime is worse than the past, but there are still some great anime coming out every year. Just keep an open mind and try not to compare them to other anime from the past. I'm doubtful that I'll ever believe any animes are better than my favorites (ie Cowboy Bebop, FMA Brotherhood, etc.) But I loved Attack on Titan and after reading the manga, I can see it becoming one of my faves.
