Hello! My name is Ben!
Welcome to my uber-amazing profile D: I'm a bit of an introvert at home, therefore am looking to make friends and meet new people with similar interests, as I'm rather shy. Therefore I joined this thing ^-^
Work - I translate for a living, which is really fun! I adore languages and spend my time speaking to angry French people, heh. I am rather 'enthusiastic' at work (rather different to at home), if that is the right word, and often start being very silly with clients (particularly those RAGING) - on the plus side, it seems to brighten up everyone's day in the office :)
Outside of work, I normally spend the time listening to / playing music, watching films with friends or at home, and sightseeing / shopping / walking in the country.
I've also recently joined a stage society, and hope to be part of many performances of musicals and theatre in the coming years!
As well as French, I've been learning Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, and have considered a TEFL route later in life.
I also play the piano, which helps me relax. I'm one of these annoying people with perfect pitch - it's a love / hate thing for various reasons....
It would be great if I found someone with this common interest in music or the arts in general. Have got into musicals recently, and have done some productions with the company I've joined!
Even though I'm fairly quiet, people do find me a good listener, and I do open up when the time is right. ^^
Films: Lots of 'feel' movies. Love Dead Poets Society and V for Vendetta. Also loads of world cinema, especially japanese stuff on the live-action side (such as battle royale, Kaiji, 20th Century Boys, Gantz). I also enjoy UK films, recently saw Les Misérables and loved it (I'm a bit of a musicals fan anyway), and loved the Hobbit too. Finally, I'm a big fan of fantasy movies.
Music: Genesis! If you like these then -> <3 I do love a lot of alternative stuff like KMFDM and The Go! Team, and some progressive rock (bit of a geek like this). Things like Blackfield, Porcupine Tree, Frost*, Pendragon and Arena 'float my boat'. I'm also into some heavier stuff too, like Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Opeth, etc. Also into numerous musicals, bits of electronica, some classical I've got into from uni, even some 90s :P Also a bit of a game music geek, especially when it comes to Nobuo Uematsu ( + The Black Mages, wewt!).
TV: Brass Eye, The Day Today, university challenge (>.>), midsomer murders and southpark o.O
I love anime - my favourites are Code Geass, Angel Beats, and Baldr Force Exe.
I'm a fan of all kinds of art and sculpture, and love going to my local galleries. Although I can't draw/paint, I admire people who can, as I find looking at art beautiful.
Books: Lots of Fantasy Stuff (Read things like Bedlam, Celia Friedman - Feast of Souls, Hunger Games, Douglas Adams, Ready Player One (BRILLIANT). Used to read a lot of horror but not so much nowadays. Jeremy Clarkson too, for comedy value.
I do enjoy eating out, particularly Italian, and a good cocktail bar is right up my street. Have also tried fine dining, and whilst I haven't done it too much, it may be something I'd look to get into more to discover what's out there in the world of food.
You should message especially if you love all things geeky , or you're up for a chat about anything you find interesting above - I love to meet anyone (be it as a friend or more than this) who has anything in common with me, I'd love to pass the time discussing things I'm passionate about with someone who has the same common interests.
